ICYMI: Broncos announced OC hire
Congratulations to Coach Hamden on making his glorious return back to Boise. So far he’s had himself a pretty solid career so the focus now is to develop the young talent the Broncos have and keep Offensive Analyst Dirk Koetter on the staff for… reasons.
CBS Sports crowning a Bottom-25 champion
Obviously this is done in good fun but it is pretty interesting to look at. Only one Mountain West team (out of four) was able to make it out of the first round. But Hawaii and New Mexico did comprise half of the Final Four. So take that for what it’s worth.
BUT they did win and ended up NOT in the final. Gotta take those literal dubs where you can. You can click to find out who won the Bottom-25 championship (here is a hint though: the team that took home the trophy will be getting a lot of Prime Time).
Athletic Director Jeramiah Dickey spoke ESPN’s Central Texas Matt Mosley
It is about a 20-minute conversation. Always good for a listen.
Former Bronco Avery Williams leads the NFL in Punt Return average
Do you know how cool that is?
Pretty cool. And I need you to understand that Mr. Williams is pretty cool. Just as long as we are in agreement on that.
538 has a bowl watchability ranking
Frisco does ok? I dunno. It’s hard to tell. But it ranks the same as the LA Bowl so that’s cool, I suppose.
You want a former Bronco teaching you stuff about football?
Well have I got a deal for you!
Miscellinkeous
This is if the Moon were one pixel.
Given the disasterous offensive performance of last year and the start of this year, Bronco Nation is probably just as excited over a new OC as they would a new HC. Yep, Andy needed help; and I hope he succeeds. When hearing Andy’s comments about the process of hiring a new OC their were several things that stood out. First, the importance of an OC who knows how to coach QBs. I, as well as others, mentioned the possibility of Kirby Moore; a good OC but no real QB experience other than sharing a bedroom with one while growing up.… Read more »
I agree with Bronctoya – we need continuity and consistency for a few years. We also need to hire the right replacement for Kagy (Strength & Conditioning) and we might need an upgrade at OL coach. If Hamdan is as solid as he sounds, I’d guess he will ride the Taylen Green era, at least, and have great success. That might be enough to get the program back up where it belongs (at the very top of G5, pushing the P5). With UCF and Cincy moving up to the Big 12, there is every reason for us to be optimistic… Read more »
Unsure about the Hamden hire. One portion of one season as a play caller only says that his opposition had no game film on him and his tendencies as a play caller. Remember, Plough was a good hire once too.
Obviously really hope he kills it and is able to develop Green as a passer. But I am reserving my optimism. Let’s see the results on the field first. Avalos still has a lot to prove including his ability to put together a winning staff.
The confusion and conflict of the varying responses to the hire are a good representation of my personal response. I don’t quite know how to feel. In some ways I feel “yeah!” And in others “meaw…” I hope he is terrific. The heavy endorsement he got from the Missouri reporter would suggest he is gonna take this place over and move on to a head coaching position soon. Even his work history is puzzling and makes unsure of how to response. Lots of good experiences. Some pretty big names. But a lot of short stints and various duties. Maybe that… Read more »
