Today, the local sports media got a chance to speak with Boise State Athletic Director, Jeramiah Dickey, in the wake of parting ways with Coach Andy Avalos. He talked a little bit about the process, the coaching search, and his optimism for the future of Boise State athletics. After Dickey gave his remarks and took questions, interim head football coach, Spencer Danielson, took questions. A lot was covered and he actually was very transparent. For example, he revealed that Madsen is out for the foreseeable future, but that Jeanty will be back at practice this week. He did confirm a rumor that his understanding is that there is some interest for recently departed wide receiver, Eric McAlister to return to the program and it’s being explored. He and Coach Hamdan both also confirmed that they have head coaching aspirations but are currently very invested in closing out the season as successfully as possible.

“I know nothing. I know nothing.”
It will be interesting to see how things are handled this week.
I hope BSU has a coach before the AF game and he’s on the sidelines.
I think weer might already have one but won’t be announced eithe before AD or after. He may be in the stands at the last two games..
I watched Danielson at the presser. He interviewed well.
I think that would be rushing it….. especially if Boise makes the MWC championship game (it could happen).
We just need a new coach by the time the portal opens up so they can address the team/transfers/recruits & get to work in December (peddle to the metal) on the staff/recruits/transfers.
Assuming Boise goes to a Bowl Game (Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico?), I would like to see the new coach at those practices & on the sidelines observing the players & getting a feel for the team that he will inherit in January.
I agree. It would be nice to have a new coach before the last game with AF. There’s an old expression that you start looking for your next job the first day of your present job. If an AD is not looking for a new HC the day he hires the present one, he’s likely going to be rushing the process. Dickey mentioned hiring a recruiting service to assist in finding a new HC. Maybe they have a list of names not known to anybody but them, the coach, and god. He mentioned a selection committee. It’s nice for a… Read more »
It would be good to have a coach sooner than later, between the portal and getting a head start on the coaching carousel, but I think it would be too much of a distraction to announce it before the end of the regular season. The players might worry about incoming transfers following the new coach replacing them (which is happening), and the staff worry about being replaced, since new coaches almost always clean house, especially with no ties to the program. It’d be hard to properly prepare for Air Force. I doubt Boise wins anyway, but for the outgoing Seniors… Read more »
Good point. Never thought of it that way.
A few weeks ago, I had serious doubts about Boise beating Air Force, but after watching that team lose all of its mojo & go limp against Army and Hawaii, I think the odds are reasonable that Boise can pull it together to win on Senior Day & maybe propel itself to the MWC championship game Not to mention AFA will completely have their hands full with a pretty damn good UNLV team this weekend. Speaking of our coaches, look at UNLV, they fired Arroyo (coached with Avalos at Oregon) & picked probably the most non-sexy coach on the market… Read more »
The best coach is not necessarily the most popular guy. My sarcastic statement about Danielson must be walked back a bit. I watched press interviews with several BSU players yesterday; you would think Danielson is the second coming. Based on their expressions the guy is a dead ringer to get the job. I’ve been in team meetings without the coach and we all agreed to never speak ill of a coach. Lie your butt off. Keep the fans engaged and give nothing to your opponent they can build on. They all said nearly the same thing. Of course, that may… Read more »
By the way, John, the “Danielson interviewed well” was sarcasm.
I figured as much. I don’t think anyone considers him to be a likely candidate for the job
Anyone have any guesses as to who the new coach is and why? Here’s an article on the odds of the candidates. Personally I’d like to see someone that already has about 4 years head coaching experience. It’s odd that Harsin is first with the best odds. I personally wouldn’t mind if he came back. I think it’s going to be the interim getting hired

I wonder why Harsin is trending upwards.
The idea of Harsin coming back feels like getting back with my ex & hoping for a different outcome
Great analogy. I’ve visited about half a dozen websites with their lists of possible HCs. They try to project the feeling they have inside info. I suspect those who post on First Kick could assemble a better list. Frankly, I think Harsin still wants a big-time gig; another big payday. He got a rotten deal in Auburn. Everybody gets a rotten deal in Auburn. I don’t think his time at Auburn will count against him. I think he’s Big Ten bound. Michigan State is looking. That may be a good fit. I wouldn’t be surprised if BSU turns him down… Read more »
I was in discussion on Reddit with some woman who was an auburn alumni. I said that Harsin didn’t get a fair shake in Auburn. Could only imagine how hard it would be to compete in the SEC. She said that he brought all the problems on himself. Seems to me she proved my point. I’d be somewhat annoyed if Harsin went to sdsu
But she’s changed!!
