It wouldn’t be a game against Air Force if it wasn’t a cagey run fest, and that’s exactly what happened on Friday night on the Blue. The Falcons did their best to mix it up, with John Busha throwing the ball 17 times overall in the game, the same amount as Taylen Green. In the end Air Force couldn’t overcome their identity, running the ball 45 times into one of the nation’s hottest defensive lines to their detriment, as the Broncos wrapped up the regular season with a 27-19 win on senior day on the Blue.
Jonah Dalmas kicked the Broncos into the lead on the opening drive, connecting from 38 yards to give BSU a 3-0 lead. Taylen Green added to the lead in the second quarter, scampering around the outside edge to find the end zone and put the Broncos up 10-0. The Falcons responded with a field goal, and the next play from kickoff… well… lets just say Ashton Jeanty decided to take over. He housed a 75 yard screen pass from Green to make it 17-3. A late field goal from Air Force had the game at 17-6 going into the break.
Air Force opened up the second half with a touchdown, then Jeanty did it again, this time on the ground. He ripped off a 50 yard rush, putting the Broncos up 24-12. Air Force’s final points of the game came with 1:49 remaining in the third quarter, and then both teams would trade the ball back and fourth. Dalmas would seal the game with a field goal at the 3:43 mark of the fourth, and Kaonohi Kaniho finished things off with an interception on the Falcon’s last drive, giving the Broncos the 27-19 win.
Now things get interesting for the Broncos. Tomorrow’s UNLV-San Jose may determine if the Broncos go to the Mountain West Championship. A Rebel’s win means the Broncos would head to Vegas to take on UNLV in the championship. But, if the Spartans win, it will all come down to the old BCS computer rankings. The Bronco’s have an edge over SJSU currently, and even with a Spartan win, they would still be the favorite to head to Vegas, but nothing is certain. One thing is for certain, the Broncos are Rebels fans for the next 24 hours. Regardless of the outcome, the Broncos are bowling and have overcome massive amounts of adversity this season. Fans and players alike should be proud to be Broncos, and there is a ridiculous amount of momentum within the program, thanks to Jeramiah Dickey and co. Things are looking up for Boise State, no matter what.
Go Broncos.

Need a win tomorrow. Not out of the woods yet. Was a good win against an always tough team. Some observations. Like we talked about leading up to this game, Green is not a great passer. Air Force had the box stacked and we couldn’t seal the deal in the passing game. Assuming that we get into the championship game I think that this will haunt us. This game should have been put away in the first half. We are far and away the better team except in one critical aspect: the passing game. If this was an interview for… Read more »
The fact that Mac, Cobbs, Caples, and Penry aren’t playing is devastating. Bowns, Bolt, Strachan have to handle roles they are either incapable of or not ready for. When that is coupled with inconsistent ball placement we get what we see. For the most part, Bush called a game Green could manage but once he stepped outside his skill level, it seems as if the ball is up for grabs. Green tossed a lateral pass to Jeanty that I thought was going to be picked for six. However, there are some completions where he is amazing; stares down one side… Read more »
San Jose beating up UNLV. Will be interesting to see what the computers spit out.
I was listening to the UNLV broadcast while traveling and they are pretty convinced it will be San Jose. I’m not sure why. We definitely had a better SOS. Would think that the Washington and Memphis losses wouldn’t hurt us too badly.
Who knows. Let’s just say a collective Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto in advance. Just in case.
San Jose pulled it out.
That sucks.
Hopefully our head to head win keeps the computers in BSU’s favor.
The Massey ranking came out and we are 13 spots ahead of the Spartans. Hopefully the other two being used by the MW to determine teams are in our favor as well.
