The game will be played on Wednesday, March 20th, and the winner will face Florida as the 10 seed on March 22nd.
Reactions to this outcome have typically been somewhere on a scale from “incredulous” to “indignant”. It seemed as though their resume deserved better.
To say I'm shocked the Broncos are in the First Four would be a massive understatement. https://t.co/ldugYtq2kP

Boise State is seriously in the first four? Garbage.

• 39th in KenPom
• 6 Quad 1 Wins (T-14th most in the NCAA)
• Wins over NET16, NET20 (2x), NET 22 (2x), NET34, NET36
How on earth did #BoiseState almost miss being in the Field of 68?
BJ also has a lot of takes on this and you can go look at his whole X account here, but including the screenshot to get a bunch of them in a row:

…but on the bright side:
One note to consider: A win in Dayton IS considered an #NCAATournament win and brings with it a tournament share.

Anyway, for better or worse, the matchup is set. I’m sure you have thoughts too. Let us know in the comments below!

My thoughts are that I am shocked a committee could miss the mark worse than the Ray Guy Award, but here we are…
intentional, hope we win, but eyes wide open
nothing new
Mountain West got a lousy deal in seedings. Only an exception to this is SDSU—and I’ll grant they earned it with their run last year. Other teams need to win some tournament games to win more respect. Starting with us.
Definitely got done dirty by the committee. That said, Colorado’s strengths play into Boise State’s hands and Florida just lost their center (DO NOT look that up, it’s awful), so it’s not the worst draw in the world. Still…really?!
They deserved to be seeded higher, but at the same time this is a very good game for BSU to get back into rhythm. Some teams cool down after waiting too long.
It is a disrespectful screw job. Still, Leon and the team were NOT ready to play in the UNM game. It sucks, but this sort of epitomizes the Rice Era. Solid regular season, kersplatt in the MWC tourney, low seed in the NCAA tourney, early exit.
The only thing our team can do to get some respect is win. I have about 25% hope, the other 75% says the season is already over and this is as good as it will get under Rice. 🙃
Just to note: Leon does have one MWC tournament victory. Alas, we still exited in the first round of the Dance.
True on the MWC victory. Still, this year will be his 5th trip to The Dance as head coach of BSU and I think it is imperative for the continued growth of the program to break through with a win (2+ would be nice!) 🙂 I hope he/they can get it done, because I actually think that Leon is the perfect fit for this university. But, if they don’t get it done this year, it might just create even more pressure, leading to more “tight” and “uninspired” play in future post-seasons. I’m not optimistic, but I am hopeful!?! GO BRONCOS!
Just a game. Lots going on in the world. Hoping for great efforts from both sides, heartfelt handshakes and athletic unity at the end. Really nothing more than that.
