No one has the number 68 this year, so we get to highlight another player who shares a number, and this time its Nick Hawthorne, who bizarrely wears number 25 on the defensive line.
#68 (25), Nick Hawthorne, RS Freshman, EDGE

Stats
Height: 6’1
Weight: 200
High School: Boswell HS (Forth Worth, TX)
How’d he get to The Blueâ„¢?
Nick is a multi-faceted player that lined up on both sides of the ball in high school. He played corner and wide receiver, with his best stats coming on the defensive side. He had 75 tackles, 28 pass breakups, six interceptions and a fumble recovery in his junior and senior year combined. He was a three star prospect out of high school.
Nickname
“Transformer”
Nick was able to play two different positions in high school, but he’s transformed even more, now taking up the mantra of an EDGE rusher. at 6-1, 200, he is slightly unconventional, but his ability to drop back and cover a tight end, while at the same time being quick enough to get around the edge or contain a QB makes him a very interesting prospect.
Look-alike

Our celebrity look-a-like generator says Carmelo Anthony is the closest match for Mr. Hawthorne, and who are we to disagree? Maybe he can hoop like Melo as well, as he seems to be able to do everything else Boise State needs!
Career Highlights
Nick took his redshirt last season, but he did have a prolific high school career!
2024 Prospects
The defense brought back a LOT of talent, but I think Nick has a unique situation. His different size profile to a traditional EDGE could allow him to be used in a drop back coverage situation, or a QB contain against a team like Air Force. I don’t know how many snaps he will see, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he may be a tool in the back pocket of Defensive Coordinator Eric Chinander.
