Height: 6’5

High school: Hillcrest HS (Riverside, CA)

How’d he get to The Blue™?

Mason was a walk-on to the program with a noble dream of becoming Long Snapper 1. Long Snappers have their own world in terms of recruiting, and Kohl’s kicking rated Mason a 4.5 star long snapper, and #23 overall. This is what I would call good, and it’s clear Boise State thought the same.

Nickname

“SET-HUTT”

Mason is doing what he was born to do, and that’s what it’s all about.

Give him a beard and he might be able to make the switch to soccer, following in the footsteps of USMNT defender Tim Ream.

Career Highlights

Mr. Hutton has been the long snapper (longsnapper? long-snapper? snapper-comma-long?) since his redshirt freshman campaign in 2022. He took it up a notch this past year, snagging four tackles, including 2 solo tackles against Fresno State (shoutout BSU website for that stat.

2024 Prospectus

These days long snapper has become a fun position to watch. Daniel Cantrell excelled at the position and Mason has done great picking up the slack. It would be great to see his tackle numbers rise even more this season (along with clean snaps, of course). It’s those “little” things that can make a huge difference in the course of a season.

Is he on Twitter?

He is, and he’s worth the follow! @MasonHutton34. He even announced his pick for this fall’s QB battle:

Completely made up fact

Mason comes from a long line of snappers. In the beginning, his ancestors snapped twigs in the forest. Evolution lead the family to later be known for snapping femurs in the heat of battle before further evolving to snap their fingers in barbershop quartets. The family line reached their final form at the invention of football, leading to their Lisan-Al-Gaib, Mason Hutton.
