Football season officially feels close, which is good and bad news. Good because it’s close, bad because it’s not close enough.

Stats

Height: 6’3

Weight: 203 (-2)

High school: Lawndale HS (Carson, CA)

How’d he get to The Blueâ„¢?

Thornton had a solid list of suitors coming out of HS. Boise State was the only listed G5 offer as Dionte held offers from Arizona, Cal, and Kansas. So why choose BSU? Easy; only school with a tee dog.

Nickname

“Rose”

Every thorn has its rose is, I’m sure, what Poison actually meant to say.

Career Highlights

In 2023–his one year of playing time since redshirting–Dionte played in 9 games and had four tackles. If you’d like to see the talent that made him such a highly sought after recruit, his high school highlights can be viewed here.

2024 Prospectus

With the depth ahead of him in the cornerback room, it’s likely that Thornton will continue to learn and grow in the system, physically and mentally (although it’s hard to imagine a 6’3″, 200+lb corner getting more physically imposing) while getting into games mostly on special teams and as a reserve. He will have an opportunity to push for much more meaningful playing time in future seasons.

Is he on Twitter?

Not an avid tweeter, @DionteThornton, but you’ll see him on those retweets from time to time.

Completely made up fact

Dionte gave up what could have been a lucrative career as an Olympic trampoline athlete (I’m not making it up; that’s a real sport) in order to pursue his dream of playing football. To be fair though, he was already concerningly tall for that sport, since he’s already halfway to the ceiling. So, it’s for the best, really!
