Other facts
1. A new year?
In the last 3 seasons, Boise State has made the big dance but unfortunately failed once they have gotten there. This year Boise State has arguably the most talented roster in the Mountain West this season, and should compete for a Mountain West championship and hopefully, in March Madness.
2. THREADZ
A L L W H I T E
You can’t go wrong with the classics.
3. New Faces
Boise State has welcomed plenty of new but talented faces onto this team, to name a few: Dylan Anderson, Alvaro Cardenas, and Javan Buchanan. Alvero Cardenas is a transfer PG from MW rival San Jose State, who is a preseason All-MW First Team player who averaged 13.1 PPG on 45.7% from the field and 38.5% from 3 a season ago. Dylan Anderson is a former 4-star, 7-foot Arizona transfer who should play a pivotal role at the 5. Last but certainly not least, Javan Buchanan is a former NAIA All-American transfer from Indiana Wesleyan who scored double digits in 32 games, and in 15 of those, it was for more than 20 points.
4. Last Time We Played Each Other
The last time the Broncos played Oakland (from Michigan, not California), they put the smackdown, winning 77-57.
Streaks
Boise State – Lost 2
Oakland – Won 1
Best Name On Their Roster
Jack Hoth, Guard, Junior
Ice cold, like the planet.
Best Picture On Their Roster
Jaylen Jones, Guard, Sophomore
In case you forget who their starting point guard is, the chain reminds you.
Players To Watch
DQ Cole, Guard
In their season opener against Defiance (who?), DQ put up 15 points and 3 assists. He will be a solid offensive threat for what should be an elite Bronco defense.
Tuburu Naivalurua, Forward
Tuburu recorded a double-double in their opener, with 13 points and 13 rebounds. He was also great on defense, recording 2 steals and 2 blocks.
Jayson Woodrich, Guard
The senior transfer from Cleveland, who averaged 8 points on 35% from beyond the arc last season, has started the year off cold, shooting only 12.5%, something that hopefully does not change against the Broncos.
Keys to Victory
Play clean ball
Absolutely need to keep control of the ball and limit turnovers; do not give them hope of an upset.
Take easy looks
No need to chuck up ugly shots, take it to the rim with our bigs, or get it out to beyond the arc with one of our sharpshooters open; get those points up!
Play the defense we know we are capable of playing
In the past couple of years, Boise State has been one of the most elite defenses in college basketball; there is no reason to expect that to not be true this time around.
Score Prediction
I have a feeling this talented team will be excited to show off their talents against a weaker opponent, winning the season opener in dominant fashion.
Boise State 86, Oakland 52
