The hype coming into this game was hitting at the right time. Heisman frontrunner. Possible #4 CFP ranking. A chance to show out when it mattered.
And the Broncos didn’t disappoint (in the first half).
Ashton Jeanty had 132 yards, a long of 75 yards, and one touchdown in the first half. Madsen was an efficient 12/14,107 yards, a pass TD and a rushing TD. Not too dang bad by the important guys for Boise State.
The Broncos secondary also chose a really good time to have their best game.
The defense only allowed 78 total yards. Hajj-Malik Williams went 7-10 for 66 yards and a last-second interception to end the half. Say what you will about the secondary, this game they deserve all the kudos for making the right moves and getting really good coverage.
The second half, though, was a rougher story.
Broncos punted five straight times. UNLV did hit a Mountain West Champ game record 86-yard run that amounted to no points.
Neither team were really firing on all cylinders until UNLV’s Greg Burrell ran a 31-yard touchdown score.
But alls well that ends well, really, given the Broncos walk away with a win over a ranked team, going 12-1, and getting an entry into the newly expanded CFP.
Broncos are the back-to-back champs for the first time in school history. Pretty dang cool.
Go Broncos.

PLAYOFFF BOUND!!!!!!! THIS WAS YEARS IN THE MAKING!!!!!!!! GO BRONCOS 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Spot on, Damien! The first half was the most complete I’ve seen since Oregon. Clearly they reverted to a more conservative offense in the second half…sadly. However, as I told my son last night toward the end of the game, we sent a message, and that message was, “We could have made it far worse if we wanted to.”
So, how about those refs, huh?
Those refs couldn’t spot a tree in a forest.
I watched the UNLV interview after the game. I’ve never seen four people so devastated. Two years in a row they get beat three times by a team they were convinced inferior to them.
Honestly if the refs give UNLV the first down they deserve they probably don’t run the ball on that touchdown.
I replied to a comment on a FB thread regarding the game and those who were present. I stated how clear all the pre-snap movement was on TV and asked if it was as clear live. I had multiple replies saying the movement was very apparent, as well as the lousy spots. But, once again, those types of ref help were overcome!
I haven’t yet seen the UNLV presser. I’ll have to hunt this one down!
I don’t know what they were watching or what eye they were watching it out of; the bad eye or the blind eye.
Regards to the press conference; they were more than the losers. I am still not sure how to describe it.
No kidding! This was one of the worst officiating jobs I’ve ever seen, and we’ve had some doozies in the past!
Not a good look by the fans to vandalize their own stadium after the game. I can understand some excitement, but at least act like your team has won before. Maybe one of the dozen or so readers of this board can justify the actions; I’m listening.
It’s all ok, just let those who did it pay for it. They are on video, and there’s a lot of them, it likely wouldn’t break any one of them.
This was THE game. No other more important than this one on the Blue. No couches were burned, no cars overturned, no UNLV fans were accosted or attacked. It’s part of enjoying the victory. It was a tradition when goalposts were made of wood. What does one want; everybody to quietly walk out of the stadium to a wine-tasting party? How about campus riots for free Palestine, environmental reform, deforestation of the Amazon, or the traffic on the connector? “vandalize their own stadium” That’s right, bought and paid for by the mob. Wait a minute, I get it, you’re a… Read more »
I can tell you that’s not uncommon at all. I used to go to Penn State games and after nearly every win the fans tore down the goal post and paraded them down the streets. It seems overthetop today, but than we live in much wimpeier times than in days past. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!
Pure lies. Tearing down goal posts after every game? You’re a buffoon.
You’re an ass who knows nothing, but then that’s not news is it?
Remind me not to get on your bad side.
I don’t think he said “every game.” He said “nearly every win.” I’m going to defend Bob K. Tearing down the goalpost has happened at Penn State several times. (Google it). Normally it’s the more notable games; signature wins. Indeed, Mr. Bronco69, you have exposed your own buffoonery. However, we all make mistakes. And maybe you’re just having a bad day. No problem. Keep posting. Tearing down the goalpost was immortalized in the 1955 song by The Four Lads, Moments to Remember. Here is the first stanza: The New Year’s Eve we did the town The day we tore the… Read more »
Quit crying about the goal posts. The AD came out in support of the students. Great look after a great win, you’re a Karen!
Here it is I accused you of buffoonery and you trump it all with a great comment. Actually, in a very festive and celebratory mood, Dikcie said they’d find the money to replace it. And a vote up for your comment.
done deal then if they’d find the means..for that matter whose actual $’s went to installing the ‘posts in the first place? i had to think through this for a while
methinks fans tore them down, and fans already paid for them to be put in, and fans will pay for the rebuild…… so kinda nonfactor
One of my points exactly. Nobody was out there saying, “Wait, wait this is all wrong.” The police didn’t try stop it. In fact, I think I saw Tromp on the crossbar trying to sway it down.
I heard that a new goalpost is $25k. Chump change. Paid less for my first house.
