Boise State Vs Nevada Game Recap: Final Score Boise State 24, Nevada 3
First Quarter
In classic rivalry fashion, this game was tough and physical. Tonight, the Wolfpack thought it was a good idea to celebrate the 2010 win against the Broncos in front of 10s and 10s of fans. I guess an 8 p.m. kickoff was past the fans’ bedtime.
- On the 3rd play of the game, A’marion McCoy picked up his 4th INT in 3 games.
Field Goal Nevada 3-0
- After the int the Broncos punted and the Wolfpack drove 57 yards, but the Broncos held them to a 40 yard field goal
End of First Quarter 3-0 Nevada
Second Quarter
Field Goal Boise State 3-3
- Boise State fails to punch it in from the 2-yard line and settles for a 21 yard Colton Boomer FG
- INT number 2 for the Broncos defense by Jermiah Earby. It looked like he was the offensive receiver
- After a Maddox INT the Wolfpack were in scoring position and looked to fake a field goal on a 4th an 18…. Not the smartest choice.
Touchdown Broncos 10-3
- Sire Ganes punches it in from the 2 to cap a 13-play drive to wrap up the first half of play
Halftime Score: 10-3 Boise State
Third Quarter
Touchdown Broncos 17-3
- Most of the third quarter was a back-and-forth punt fest, but a muffed Reno punt put the Broncos on the 4-yard line. On fourth and goal Maddox was pushed across the goal line for another Broncos TD
Fourth Quarter
Another Jeremiah Earby INT
- Early in the Fourth, Nevada was driving, looking to make this game interesting, but once again the defense stood firm, and Jeremiah picked off the Nevada QB in the endzone
Touchdown Boise State 24-7
- In classic Boise State fashion, the offense killed off the game with a 15-play 8:18 8:18-minute drive to punch in one last TD by Dylan Riley
Defense Forces its 5th Turnover
- In garbage time, the Broncos force another fumble recovered by the defense to cap off a monumental night for the BSU defense
Final Score: Boise State 24, Nevada 3
Observations
- The defense once again held up its end of the bargain, forcing 5 turnovers and shutting out the Wolfpack in the second half
- Offense struggled to get out of second gear but still took advantage of most of the turnovers, scoring on 3 of them
- This looks like it will be the last time we play this team for a long time. The Broncos will finish this “rivalry” 21-2 since we started playing them in 1999. As a fan, I say goodbye and good riddance.
- The Broncos extend their bowl eligible streak to 28 seasons. Unbelievable.
What’s Next?
- The University of California, Fresno, comes to the Blue next Saturday at 1:30.

Solid work, defense!
At least the defense was a bright spot. They did their part to keep us not only in this game, but also ahead in this game. Special Teams didn’t do too bad either, with that weird punt return/fumble recovery. This was, without a doubt, one of the ugliest wins I’ve seen in quite some time. Again the offense looked flat, the OL still can’t open holes in the middle and, play calling wasn’t attention keeping, to say the least. Madsen….where are those still touting his great abilities? Every week we see more and more of what he really is. Is… Read more »
I’m not going to beat the Madsen drum. I’ve learned my lesson. However, I don’t know if it would have made a difference with his interception, but Cappel’s short-armed and attempt to make a catch. In my view, he could have at least delect it. And Chris Marshall, every game he drops balls that would keep drives alive. Where have all the tight-ends gone? Long time passing. Almost sounds like an old war protest song. (Where have all the flowers gone…) We all agree this was an ugly game. I’d rather have an ugly win than a pretty loss, if… Read more »
Caples-yep. Bates did save Madsen from another INT with his great takeaway from the defender. Marshall-I’ve seen more than once where he drops passes that hit him in the hands. There were a couple at his feet or over his head (typical) but, I don’t get why he’s still in there. I did notice the passes to him stopped after a few drops. Tight Ends-no clue. I was wondering the same thing. Perhaps they were watching the Nevada coverage on them, so went elsewhere? I’ll have to watch a replay and take a look. Even being Nevada’s GOTY, we looked… Read more »
Was glad to see a shakeup at receiver. Looks like the staff got tired of dropped passes and poor effort too. Ford was a big loss though. Looking for other players to step up big time.
Defense was killing it!
Imagine being a D1 FBS football team and holding a celebration for the time you beat Boise State. Must be nice. Onward! Go Broncos!
I’ve watched, listened, thought, reviewed, and waffled. Of course, I’m talking about Madsen. I can buy that he’s not a great QB. Statistically, he does not measure up to Boise standards. Like most fans, we look at the standard, Kellen Moore. Moore was more brain than game. He’s a legend. He had as recievers: Pettis, Young, Miller, Burroughs, Shoemacker, Moore (Kirby), Perretta, and Childs. That’s not to mention the guys coming out of the backfield like Johnson, Martin, and Avery. And some pretty good tight ends. Oh yeah, how about offensive linemen? Some of Madsen’s throws go low. Some have… Read more »
I’d love to see Madsen rise up and improve. But, as I stated, I think he’s playing to his potential. The areas where he’s been deficient for two years are still there. That’s a hard pill to swallow. I would agree that Jeanty was a huge part of the offense, and hid many flaws. What he could do scared every defense we went up against, allowing our passing game to flourish without much pressure on Madsen. Now that he’s gone, defenses see our passing game isn’t that great so, if they can slow down, or stop, the run game, they… Read more »
