In the words of the penguins in Madagascar:

This was not what you would call a “fun” game to watch, but alas.

Penalties, injuries, and turnovers were the stories of this game.

Penalties: had nine penalties for 94 yards. That’s a lot. Fresno State also had some penalties too (nine for 58 yards). Seemed like the refs wanted to be part of this game and they made their presence knowwn.

Injuries: Maddux Madsen and Jason Steele headlined a laundry list of injuries for the Broncos. Sire Gaines being down for a bit wasn’t helping the anxiety either but he came back in the game.

Turnovers: The Broncos had three turnovers, all involving Max Cutforth. The first interception came off a Lauter deflection. Sucks because that counts against Cutforth despite him hitting Lauter where he needed to. The second was a strip-sack on the next possession. The pocket looked decent but inexperience didn’t help. The third was a bad toss to a defender streaking across.

Oh and a blocked field goal. So. That’s cool.

There were some bright spots (that weren’t Fresno State related). Malik Sherrod had a decent showing with 67 yards of 10 carries and a long of 44.

Chase Penry had 44 yards on five catches and the sole Boise State touchdown.

Overall this is a game you put in the trash compactor and let it crush. And then burn said trash compactor. And then bury those ashes 20 feet underground. Then salt the ground to make sure nothing ever grows there.

The Broncos have a bye next week and then face an even better defense in San Diego State on November 15th.

Thems the breaks.

GO BRONCOS!
