Last skill position for a while, folks (although I acknowledge some linemen take offense to that term). Presenting number 80:

#80, Cam Bates, Jr, WR

Stats

Height: 5’10

Weight: 180 (+10)

High school: Mansfield Timberview HS (Mansfield, TX)

How’d he get to The Blue™?

Mr. Bates is part of the well-established Texas pipeline. He actually played QB his Sophomore and Junior seasons, moving to what recruiting sites just call athlete (ATH). He was a consensus 3-star recruit and choose the Broncos over the likes of Texas Tech, Toledo, and Sam Houston State. I’d say he chose right.

Nickname

“Speed”

Nickname sticks another year. Dude is fast.

Now, I’m going to have to ask the comment sections to be nice here. While not deserving of the 2024 Heisman trophy, Travis Hunter is still a talented athlete whose career trajectory I would not mind for Mr. Bates.

Career Highlights

Cam had a solid sophomore campaign a year ago, putting up 301 receiving and 81 rushing to go with 3 TDs. He must have something against UNLV because both of his biggest games were against them—a combined 165 yards and 2 scores.

2026 Prospectus

This WR room needs a breakout star, and Cam could be the guy. He has the speed to compete against top level talent, but is still rounding out his skills as a complete receiver. Every offseason gives an opportunity, and the last took him from “gadget-play” guy to a more consistent presence—could this year be the leap to stardom? The offense would certainly appreciate it.

Is he on Twitter?

Actually a bit more active than many on the site. Always supporting his boys: @_CamBates3

Completely made up fact

Cam’s ideal meal when he’s sick? A burger and fries. “Why eat sad food when you’re already sad?” He might have a point.
