In preparation for facing Wyoming this weekend, Boise State released their *official* depth chart. This, of course, comes with the caveat that it often doesn’t reflect the on-field reality. Especially if there is a player that is injured but is not out for the season. The coaching staff will often keep them listed on the depth chart, even if they don’t play for a few weeks.

Also, since SB Nation still technically owns the content of the Countdown articles we’ve constructed in the past, the links to the player profiles in this article will redirect you to our previous site.

Notable Notes

Despite there being no changes to the depth chart, the notable point here is actually manifested by the lack of changes to the depth chart, beginning with…

  • Sam Vidlak is still listed as the #2 QB, despite Maddux Madsen getting snaps before him at the end of Nevada, once Taylen Green was pulled out due to the insurmountable lead. This was likely because Boise State is down to–at maximum–five games remaining in the season. This accounts for the Mountain West Championship game, as well as a bowl invite that would likely be accepted. Subtracting a game like Wyoming, which likely won’t get out of hand the way things did in Reno, the final “five” (now 4) games are going to be a time where you’re going to see a lot of names that are less familiar to you. This is due to the new(er) rule that allows for freshmen to preserve their redshirt year if they play in fewer than 4 games in a season. Hopefully, the Broncos play in a few more blowouts to end the year so that we can see more of those young faces and they can get some experience that will pay dividends going into 2023.

  • Demitri Washington still listed on the two deep. This has been a somewhat contentious point as multiple outlets confirmed he was going to be out for the year after getting injured on his first snap vs BYU. On top of the part in Avalos’s Monday presser where he literally laughed at the implication, the news was contradicted and led to this rather funny series of Tweets:
  • Tyreque Jones, who left the field vs Nevada is still listed as well.
