Starting things off…

My writing has been spotty this basketball season to say the least, but (unfortunately), you’ll never be able to get rid of me.

In my brief unintentional hiatus, I started making advanced stat graphs for Twitter, so expect to see some of those come your way here as I create and solve problems because, I can. But AS FOR BASKETBALL, let me catch you up with a few of my thoughts:

It’s been a wild ride watching this team this season, but we win games. Last season gave us brick fights every game, and this year is a new beast. I would say this year we embody the adage “Live by the 3, die by the 3”, but when we get to the “die by the 3” thing, we still manage to win anyway, just with more suffering.

My friend texted me during the New Mexico game on Wednesday, “If we don’t score a few more points before halftime, this game is over”. To his credit, we did score more points before halftime and we did win, but I thought it was funny. Sure we hadn’t scored in 5 minutes and faced a double-digit, but which game among our wins did not have 5 minute scoring droughts and a double-digit deficit?

Bottom line, this isn’t a criticism at all. We have a great team that gives us some exciting basketball, and wins games. I figure if you’re gonna lose years off your life watching these games anyway, you might as well enjoy them a little bit too.

So here’s to the 2022-2023 Bronco Basketball team, and let make more history this year, eh?

Exciting Facts (about the game and otherwise)

1. ‘Lil Double-Header

Dozens of spartan fans will look to intimidate while the Broncos look to lock up at-large hopes.

2. What happened last time SJSU played the Broncos?

Could watch this on loop all day.

Streaks

Boise State – Won 4

SJSU – Lost 2

Player to Watch

Ibrahima Diallo, CM, Southhampton

The large center for the spartans lives a double-life it would appear. Unfortunately, his split attention has generated only yellow cards for the French midfielder, and relegation from the Premier League seems imminent for his side.

As for the basketball player, he still dons the color yellow, and he was extremely annoying last time around. The Broncos aren’t a “large” team, and control of boards will be important tonight. While he isn’t the star per se, he’ll be one to make things interesting tonight.

Keys to victory

  • Control the Glass: Like I said above, controlling the glass will be critical. Finishing defensive possessions with boards and keeping offensive possessions alive is a recipe to kill hope, a dish we have often served to MW foes this year.
  • Bench Contribution: 5 guys is a great restaurant, and our starting 5 is arguably better, but the bench needs to contribute more. The more they do, the easier the this game will be, and the better March will be too.

Score prediction

There is one truth in the Mountain West: There are no easy road games. Look to have fun (and to sweat), but this team is headed in the right direction, and they will keep marching on.

Boise State 71, SJSU 62
