And now we know it too, dreams do come true.
Well folks, I’m still in shock. Out of the top 5 of TCU, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, and Boise State, the Broncos got the call. Not even late offers from Alabama and Georgia could sway the fastest football recruit in the nation.
If he signs, Gatlin will join the team in the 2026 season following a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On the livestream, Gatlin cited faith as a determinant that swayed him to the promised land.
We’ll talk about him plenty more on here, but the big thing is his speed. He’s shattered the state record for the 100 and 200 meter dash, and is the 2nd fastest HS sprinter in the country as junior. Take a look at this comp Jay Just put out:
And here is Gatlin’s official announcement video:
This shows extremely well on the work Andy Avalos and Co. has done on the recruiting front. In the tweet below, his coach made sure to emphasize the “FLAWLESS recruitment” job done in pursuit of Gatlin. Also peep the beautiful Idaho/BSU logo.
EDIT: Here’s a video of the reaction of the Bronco coaches when they got the news:
How we feeling?
Incredible. Welcome to the good guys.
Too bad we’ve got to wait 2 years to watch him. Taylen Greens successor with be throwing him passes. Very exciting for the program though.
that sucks. it is what it is…
Hey Evan, I miss your Dan Morino avatar from the day.
I’m super excited to see what he brings to the table. I wonder he’ll end up on his mission. Best of luck!!
This is a massive deal. This young man could have gone to any blue blood Power conference school out there but instead chose Boise State because he wants to grow the Idaho brand and be an inspiration for Idaho athletes. This is exactly what we need! We need a strong home pipeline to keep Idaho kids in Idaho. I’ve watched a lot of our top prospects choose out of state schools the last decade and it sucks! Thanks you Gatlin!
Def don’t want to let the home grown talent slip out of your fingers. I’m in Indiana and an IU bball fan ( and a BSU bball fan as well) you definitely didn’t want Mr. Basketball go to your rival or even to a neighboring state university.
Woooohooo!!! Having to wait 2 years is a bummer but definitely better than the alternative. He will be 20 yrs old and ready to dominate. Hope we got a gunslinger in the waiting to throw to him.
I read an article from a Nebraska fan page that was ragging on how embarrassing it was that they lost this commitment to a Group of 5 school. It was glorious.
Surprised and glad he didn’t get an offer from BYU…considering he is going on a mission. I wonder if he just wasn’t interested in BYU or if they somehow overlooked him.
He did get an offer from BYU, but they didn’t make the top 5 for him
