Broncos are going with the Blue-White-Blue tonight, and they are 22-15 all-time (FBS Era) in that combo. Do you buy into the superstition? Here’s the list of games that have been played in that combo since 2000:

2. Promotion and Relegation?

Maybe not *game* news, but the Broncos made waves this week when assistant AD Mike Walsh proposed a promotion/relegation system for the new PAC/MW. Is this the kind of innovative move we need to change our fortunes?
3. Fancy Stats
Peep this graph by @statsowar on Twitter:

There’s a LOT to unpack in these. A couple things I’ll point out: Aztecs excel in getting good field position, but not really anything else at the moment. Also notable that the Broncos have not done well on 1st/2nd down, but have been able to convert pretty well on 3rd down. So I’d say we should convert on all downs, I think that will work.
4. Throwback to My Best Tweet Ever

The first half against SDSU was a catastrophic low point for the team last year, but thanks to my tweet (and nothing else) the Broncos were able to turn it around. A win against the Aztecs could provide some much needed juice for this squad. (Possibly even an 12 game win streak en route to a NY6 berth??)
Streaks
Boise State – Won 1
SDSU – Lost 2
Best Name On Their Roster
New Zealand Williams, Sophomore LB

Oceania’s finest will be in San Diego tonight. Hopefully that makes us like Australia or something?
Best Picture On Their Roster
Pierce Brown, Freshman WR

SDSU’s photographer ran a pretty tight ship with team photos sadly, but Pierce Brown’s smirk here made me chuckle.
Players To Watch
Jaylen Mayden, QB
This man was playing safety a year ago against the Broncos. No he’s the starting QB. Ideally we’d like to make him looks like a safety again, but 700 yards and 3 TDs is a solid start to the season (With the LARGE caveat of 4 ints).
Zyrus Fiaseu, LB
Zyrus leads an SDSU defense that has struggled against the run. He already has 25 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles on the year, making him a key cog in the Aztecs defensive gameplay. If this game gets tricky, expect to hear his name.
Keys to Victory
Punting… wins championships?
The last outing in San Diego against the Aztecs takes us back to 2017. The catalyst was this punt return by the one and only Avery Williams:
Our Punter/Kicker duo could be the best in the nation. Converting FG opportunities and pinning the SDSU offense back will be critical down the stretch.
3rd Down the Best Down
Along the same vein as above, this will be a game of possessions. 3rd down stops will be huge to break any momentum the Aztecs try to build.
Catches
I’m not picky as to who, but the WR group needs some collective improvement. Not just limiting drops, but also making big plays will ease the pressure on TG and build a nice rhythm.
Score Prediction
While I thoroughly enjoyed the last outing in Boise (at least the second half), I’m expecting this game to be muddier all. the way through. Both the Aztecs and Broncos have had their struggles early, but the strengths match up more to the Broncos.
Boise State 24, SDSU 13
Hoping for a win, but not holding my breath.
Hopefully the game is competitive.
What I mostly want to see is that the coaches have figured out the game. Will they stick to their guns and just give us more Milli Vanilli, or will they play to the talent they have and let the play makers make plays?
A inquiring mind wants to know.
Let’s Go!!!!!
This CBS SPORTS announcer looking like Rocky Horror Picture Show. He got more eye makeup than Gaga.
Beat the Aztecs!!
Game Thread???
Not a good start. Special Teams have given up two big returns, and Taylen Green continues to look lost on offense. Let’s hope they turn it around ….
Not so special teams today. Gotta tighten up. Used to be a Boise State trademark.
Also, tackling….
So #4 felt like he had enough time to punch the ball down emphatically with his off hand, but not enough to UTILIZE BOTH HANDS TO INTERCEPT THE PASS?!?!?!
OOoooooofffffff
Yeah, I just don’t get it. It’s like our guys are robots …. Programmed to just miss on every big play.
Why no punt block there? Offense not looking so hot. Missed an opportunity to generate non-offensive points.
Our punter is a stud though. What a weapon.
Green needs to run an option offense or they need to put in Madsen. There, I said it. I’m not sorry. The kid can run and hit the occasional pop pass. But he’s not a pocket passer.
Furthermore, if we recruited him as this great athlete and that is his sell, then why are we trying to make him a non-running threat?!?! I’m confused. Soooooooo confused.
Jeanty is a beast!!!!!#
#2 is a baller. Holy cow!
He keeps this up and he might be in contention for GOAT bronco running back. Put this team on your back and take us to the victory young man!!!
Jeanty is a BEAST! Bowens should have caught that ball. I know it is a tough catch, but he is just not catching the ball. Time to see what Strachan can do. Good game. Our guys keep fighting!
Agree. Coaches aren’t doing him any favors here by keeping him in. He has multiple drops in the first 3 games. He needs to be pulled and an intervention performed. Or maybe it’s an exorcism… whatever works.
They swarming #2 now…. Need some QB run action or receivers to get some space.
Looks like we found another play maker. McAllister wants to play! Between him and Jeanty we may have something.
Bowens dropped another. It was contested but I don’t think he got a hand in. Looked like a drop to me. Rough…
Great 3rd quarter. The tackling has to improve though! No excuse for this. Have seen tons of attempts to tackle high. It’s not good.
That was the worst play call I’ve seen in a long time. Hamden has been a big disappointment.
Uninspired
They are honed in on Jeanty. #1 is a rocket but he’s a little green to run between the tackles. Why can’t you scheme to get him the ball in space? McAllister has shown us some things. Get him the ball and see what he can do. Or just go straight option. Lots of things better than the obvious run.
But yeah, defense better hit the tackling drills on Sunday.
It’s impressive just how bad the tackling is.
I guess you don’t need tackling when you have #2! Wow! Spectacular! Great showing on the offensive line. They played very well.
Thats a W!
Tough win, but a win is a win.
Jeanty IS the man.
I’m glad someone reported to Avalos that we were criticizing the tackling. I accept his promise to fix it.
That right there is funny
