UCLA looks mid
Didn’t in the second half, got everything figured out
All they did was stack the box. Tiller isn’t the guy of the future. Need a portal QB
Stacked the box on defense but UCLA offense also figured out what needed done. Switch in QB made a difference, had less penalties and the run game got moving in the second half. While BSU most likely will need a transfer QB, I feel it’s difficult to judge Tiller on one game especially considering it was his first game and it was against a team that is a lot better than most MW teams he will face.
‘Johnny’ and ‘Patrick,’ I think you are both right. We absolutely need a portal QB – Tiller is way too young, and Madsen is not quite big enough nor does he have a strong enough arm. But, we don’t have to write off Tiller. He can be the QB of the future, he just isn’t ready now.
Running game looks fantastic, as does Dalmas (as always) but if Tiller can’t throw to keep the defense honest, we won’t win this game.
I wonder how Brock Osweiler feels about calling a Boise State bowl game. Have to think it brings back some sour memories for him. Either way, this running game is looking amazing.
I’m rather happy with the defense so far
Go GeoHo!
might be good to actually run the ball
The honeymoon is over.
BSU has had no fire in the 2nd half.
Tiller does not look like the next man up.
Well shoot. Let’s be honest. A Madsen or Green lead offense would have dominated this game. Tiller showed up and did his best. Nothing to be ashamed of. Will say though that we were out coached. We had no response with the half time adjustments. UCLA is not a good team and they absolutely took us to the woodshed in the second half. So put it in the books. P5. – 1. Danielson – 0. Excuses are like you know what. Even with Tiller it was a game we should have been competitive in and we got pounded. Also, I… Read more »
I don’t necessarily see Madsen as QB1 and Tiller is certainly not the guy, at least not yet. I hope we can get a solid and experienced QB in the transfer portal. Other Mountain West schools have done that—it’s time for us to do the same.
As for Danielson, he looked like a young coach. I still trust he’s going to do the job well. But he was, indeed, outcoached tonight.
Agree. It’s definitely TBD and a portal pickup wouldn’t hurt. What about an FCS transfer? Like I mentioned in a post previously, I watched some FCS and none of the QB’s really blew my hair back. Usually there is a stud passer that is looking to make the jump.
Well, that sucked.
Guess there’s always next year.
Adios until then.
Where you going broseph? There’s recruiting to be done. Spring ball. Off-season drama to be had!
And if nothing else, Boise, let’s keep things stirred up.
Call me Chef-Boyardee because I’m stirring like a mofo.
Really the only thing that kept us from a win was settling for FGs in the early part of the game. If those are TDs we win by surviving the second half. Game will slow down for Tiller. Time to get in the portal and pick up some defensive backs and one more QB just in case. Looking forward to seeing Tiller progress in the Spring Game.
Yep. That pick 6 would have been great. And that throw to bolt was money. If he doesn’t get tackled I think that’s a TD. But missing on 3 trips to the red zone cost us the game for sure.
Regardless of the outcome, we should be proud of the broncos. I just regret Holani’s last game being a loss. But in my book he’and the rest of the team are still winners. Let the UCLA.fans talk their smack. Because quite frankly, it’s all they have left
Yes Danielson got out coached the second half but hopefully he’ll get better.
I.want to.ask.all the Bronco fans to pull for Liberty.
Positive take: SD will learn, and Tiller or a portal QB will make the difference. Negative take: We’ll be mediocre forever and Jeanty made a big mistake staying. Realistic take: We’ll win several MWC ‘ships but we’ll never sniff a big victory again … P5 gap is TOO BIG, and we don’t have the talent.
I’m must disagree with you on the mediocre take. Boise will eventually get back to prominence and it also depends on your definition of mediocre. Jeanty is much better playing at bsu where he will actually get to play instead of being on the sideline of some p5 school. Yes, Boise needs some talent help for sure. But that’s where recruiting comes into play. One thing for you and all here to keep in mind. One of the big indicators of how good your team is comes from how hard your opponent plays against you. UCLA made great adjustments at… Read more »
Well I’m a little torn on the mediocrity thing. Do I think we will continue to be a perennial Mtn West powerhouse? Yes. Will we continue to struggle to compete with mid range P5 teams? I haven’t seen anything to suggest the contrary. Unfortunately I think the team failed to strike when the iron was hot and make a move to a larger conference. We had that opportunity for about a 14 year period and failed to seal the deal. Houston turned a 2 season run into a deal. UCF turned a 2 season run into a deal. Cincinnati had… Read more »
I do not believe that any AD could have gotten us into a larger conference. Why? Because college football isn’t mainly about performance—it’s about money, and our market share is too small. Hell, Oregon State was rated high all this year and had a great season—but they are still getting left behind because there’s no market in Corvallis and they don’t have Phil Knight pumping up their budget. Houston, Cincinnati and UCF are all in large markets. Sorry but Boise is just not in that league, numbers-wise. And as for me, I’m rooting for the Ducks. That doesn’t come easily… Read more »
Those teams don’t have the stadium attendance to match us and their televised games don’t have the draw ours did during that period. We tied our wagon to the Pac12 and obviously those guys were morons because they got stripped out and left for dead. They had the opportunity to strike when the Big12 lost some teams. Could have made an expansion play at that time. Instead they sat on their thumbs and now they are extinct. I just find it hard to believe that the Big12 would rather have BYU, Cincy, UCF and Houston over Boise State. Either Boise… Read more »
We are disappointed. You can only play over your heads for so long. The Broncos reached into the old top hat and could not find another rabbit. Tiller’s performance wasn’t what we expected. Closely listening to teammates’ comments about him before the game, when examined closely, gave little hope for anything more than what we saw. Starting a true freshman is seldom good. Brett Rypien pulled it off and so did Hank Bachmeier. Just looking at Tiller, he still looked like a high schooler. He may still be eighteen. Rypien was the exception. He performed well in his freshman year… Read more »
I think that Tiller is exactly what I expected. No games under his collar. A talented arm but without experience, him balling out against UCLA would have been a pipe dream. I think he will be fine. Not sure he is the starter next year. Hope I am wrong.
With a couple days of therapeutic distance, I can say the following: • To ‘socalbsufan’ and others … I’m a 30-year supporter of the Broncos and will always bleed blue. But, supporting them doesn’t mean getting comfortable with mediocrity. Our team has been mediocre for the last 5 years (competitive in the MWC, but few conference championships, losing lots of games we shouldn’t, no BIG wins against P5 opponents). I want that to change. • I am HOPEFUL that Danielson and company will be able to recruit and coach at a level that can get us into the expanded playoff… Read more »
You speak for probably 95% of Bronco fans. Seasons are won in the off-season. The training table, the weight room, conditioning, study video, and work on the most important part of the game–mentality and attitude. Stay focused and stay out of trouble.
If it’s any consolation? As a resident of Los Angeles I can tell you I haven’t heard a whole lot of trash talking from the UCLA fans. In fact it’s the opposite. They mentioned the same points we’ve mentioned here: true freshman QB, missed pick 6, 2fgs in the red zone and bolt getting tackled. They didn’t go as far to say boise would have won but they do say it would have went to the wire if not OT making it one of the best bowl games of the year. Now let’s see what the broncos can do in… Read more »
