Major Continuity On Bronco Coaching Staff
The Boise State football team had an up and down season, but some position groups certainly experienced a lot of success all the way through. Probably the most notable of those, aside from the running backs (Coach Montgomery’s retention was announced yesterday), was the offensive line, who experienced a complete rebirth from a relative weakness to an absolute strength between 2022 and 2023. Coach Tim Keane was the architect of that.
Also retained as coaches were former Boise State players, EDGE Jabril Frazier, and WR legend, Matt Miller. Both of their units had mixed successb this season, but there was also a lot of turnover and tumultuousness in their respective rooms; WR particularly–losing Caples early, then Cobbs and MacAlister later on.

Go Broncos

A long hard look must be taken at the D. That’s Danielson’s wheelhouse.
For sure.
Also, the receiving coach needs to have a come to Jesus. There was a pretty big gap between their starters at the beginning of the season and the productive players at the end of season.
Good players at a certain position don’t make you a good coach at that position.
But the ability to recognize talent and field the best players that give you the best opportunity to win is absolutely the job of the coaches and in the case of our wide receiver room they clearly did not do this.
Agreed. Miller did not coach up the receivers much. I mean, there is some talent there. Bolt is a speedster, and Strachan is a big-bodied receiver who showed some flashes. Still, I don’t feel like we got what we needed from the receiving corps.
A really hard look needs to be taken at DB/ST Coach Warren too. Our corners got beat ALL THE TIME and our Special Teams cost us a game or two (Memphis and Colorado State).
We don’t need to see punters or kickers trying to make tackles.
I’m still curious if it’s a talent issue or a scheme issue. Zone defenses that can’t get pressure on a QB will look terrible no matter who you have back there. A good example is the offensive line group. Watching them under Plough’s scheme you would have thought we had the worst offensive line in college football. Switch OC’s to Koetter and 1 game later they looked decent. That isn’t a talent issue. It’s 100% coaching. I don’t know how much longer we are going to carry on this lame zone scheme but it makes me want to vomit. I… Read more »
Well, I’m just a fan. I can’t imagine just one guy deciding to hire or fire. I’ll have to trust them. We have to trust the system. There’s so much we don’t know or understand. I wouldn’t want anybody on the Broncos’ staff telling me how to run my business.
Really can’t rag too much on the receiver corps. When a team loses Cobbs, Caples, MacAlister, and Penry and the only experienced guy is Bowen–what do you do? I think they did pretty good with Strachan and Bolt. The Broncos have never had a year like this one in the receiver’s room.
Excellent point(s). 👍
I ain’t gonna lie, I’m gonna miss TG10. But I’m not looking back either to say what might have been. The Broncos’ golden years were the Kellen years. Who would you rather have, # 10 or # 11? Before you answer think a moment; # 10 can run faster, has a stronger arm, makes better cuts, he’s taller, and more athletic. Times up! Yep, I’ll take ole # 11 any day. Kellen made other players better. Taylen needs others to make him better. This is not to knock Taylen, it’s just the difference between the two. What about good ole… Read more »
