There had been rumors in recent days that the University of Kentucky was pursuing Boise State Offensive Coordinator, Bush Hamdan, for the same role there. It appears that whatever attempts were made to prevent this from happening were unsuccessful, as the Wildcats announced him on their official X account today.
It appears that a number of players–quarterbacks, specifically–were begrudgingly supportive of the move. As are, likely, most of us. It’s hard to fault someone with a family wanting to (likely) triple their income. Coach Danielson has also signaled his support.
Hamdan’s departure does come with some details still needing ironed out. Specifically, the fact that his new contract had not yet been approved by the state board of education, which would have included a larger buyout. But, here’s a positive spin on it:
There’s also this comforting assurance, considering the fact that Hamdan was crucial in getting the highest rated recruit in conference history to come to Boise State:
Now we all get to speculate wildly on who Coach Hamdan’s replacement will be, which should be all kinds of fun! If you’d like to add to rampant rumors and speculation, you may now do so in the comments below!

Any idea who is on the list?

Yurcich would be a rabbit out of the hat.
Yeah, looking at his track record, I genuinely don’t understand how he’s available.
His play calling was a bit bland. Hopefully some new life and new blood will bring back some excitement.
As far as I’m concerned, the guy made a purse from a sow’s ear. An inexperienced QB, a QB who can’t pass, and a QB less experienced; that’s what he had to work with. Did I forget he was essentially three deep on the depth chart in the WR room? Bush didn’t quite measure up to Koetter’s miracle the year before but it was pretty darn close.
I’m not gonna lie – I was initially pretty chapped about Hamdan’s departure. Also, I pretty much despise every SEC team … I might root a little extra against Kentucky at this point. Having said all of that, it is pretty admirable to see the well-wishes from his players and Danielson. Although, if I’m reading between the lines correctly, SD was frustrated: “I wish Bush Hamdan (full name, no familial first name only) well, BUT we’re building something special (translation: chase the money but your gonna miss out!).” Still, I think Hamdan had real limitations as a play caller. We… Read more »
Sanford’s name was the first to pop into my head. I stopped there. I think SD and JD are going to pull off another big one.
Those two are BALLERS! Nothing would surprise me. Shoot! We might see Chris Petersen settle back in as OC. 🙂
I am on the Mike Sanford train!! He loves boise state. Has been involved in the BSU media this last year. Came a raised the flag. Great with qb development. Great at recruiting. Lots of experience as an OC. Let’s do this!!
I think Taylen Green is one heck of a football player.
I think Eric MacAlister is one heck of a WR.
I think Bush Hamdan is one heck of an OC.
In two of the above-mentioned, SD replaced them with personal measurably better.
What makes anyone think he won’t replace Hamdan with someone better?
Looks as though Bush will make three times what he made at Boise. I really can’t think of any place I’d turn down for triple the money, maybe Auburn–yeah Auburn for sure.
I hope he does well at Kentucky. He won’t have to; expectations there are–don’t lose by much.
I don’t like Auburn, and it seems like a pretty crappy work environment (they still can’t get over how much they hate Harsin.), but I would gladly go there and suck for a season and walk away with a couple million dollars.
The right fit; that’s what SD has been saying. Bush must have been the right fit because he was retained. In fact, most of the current staff must have been the right fit. So it would seem logical SD will hire somebody Bushesque. He will have to have some success as an OC and be able to develop QBs. In my mind that puts Mike Sanford in the front of the queue. Gone are the days of getting by on the cheap. The Broncos are still getting away with it but to compete with P5 programs and even with teams… Read more »
Okay, 1st Kickers, any rumors?
Koetter! That’s a big rabbit out of the hat. Can anyone name a bigger one?
