Boise State actually managed to put together a fair amount of newsworthy events this week. Although, not all of it was good news. So, let’s get that out of the way first!
Quarterback CJ Tiller Transferring
CJ Tiller logged a somewhat unlikely start in the LA Bowl vs UCLA since Taylen Green had recently transferred and Maddux Madsen had been injured not long before. He actually didn’t play terribly, especially in the first half. Particularly considering the fact he didn’t have a lot of experience and had very few practice reps as a starter. He always seemed like a good guy and we wish him all the best!
Roddie Anderson Is Transferring
Another member of the 2023-2024 Boise State Basketball team is shipping out in search of greener grass.
Unfortunate.
Boise State Men’s Tennis Mountain West Tournament Championship
Coach Harsin Sighting
Coach Harsin details his leisurely non-working schedule before he and Jay launch into an extremely interesting (albeit somewhat depressing) discussion about the modern state of college football, with the portal and NIL. Thankfully, they conclude the episode on a high note, with a fun trip down memory lane and some unique insights about Kellen, Vander Esch, Pettis, and others.
New Broncos In The NFL
Unfortunately, Boise State’s streak of 14 years with a player drafted was ended this weekend. This was exceptionally disappointing because George Holani absolutely was a draftable talent. Unfortunately, his injury history likely scuttled his chance to be picked. However, he is still getting an opportunity that will excite a lot of local fans (and at least one member of the FKWG staff: Hunter. A dedicated Seahawks fan, despite the best efforts of his favorite uncle)
Another former Bronco, to whom a return to the state of Washington would be a homecoming, Cade Beresford, received a minicamp invite to the Seattle Seahawks. However, he also received and accepted an invite to the New Orleans Saints’ camp.

I think Tiller handled the game quite well especially considering the circumstances he was dropped into. Disappointed to see him leaving because I think he would be a good QB in the Mountain West.
Well, technically, he might still be a good Mountain West QB……….. for Utah State
CJ didn’t really fit in Boise’s offense. Couldn’t throw deep at the Bowl game.Looked awful at the spring game. Good luck to him seemed like a nice guy.
CJ had a huge opportunity handed to him at the LA Bowl. Everyone hoped he would pull off a Bachmeier. He didn’t. He did not impress in the spring game. He has all his eligibility remaining. He is probably at least a couple of years away from contributing in D1. There are plenty of programs that would be smart to get him. Cal was interested in him before coming to Boise. That may be a good place for him. He sees himself, at best, as third-string if he stays at Boise. Too bad, seems like a nice fella.
It is sad to see Tiller go. However, I think this is a good sign that Nelson is progressing. Tiller could see that Malachi was either going to start or be a solid #2 behind Mad Dog. I wish him the best.
It’s been a couple of days but Dishawn Misa entered the portal. He was one of Boise’s all-time high recruits. He committed to the Broncos in 2022. After two years he chucked it in? Would have liked to have seen him stay and put in the effort. Hope he finds a program.
Most recruits are mis-evaluated from the high school to college ranks. It’s easier (& more hands on) to evaluate college talent to the NFL (& MLB, NHL, etc). There are guys like Nick Patti & then there are guys like Leighton Vander Each, & many more. I always thought it was a bright weird that Misa so was so highly touted, but never saw the field except for maybe Special Teams. Injuries? Lack of effort? Couldn’t read the offenses or remember blitz packages? Maybe his heart wasn’t in it anymore. Who knows? But we need to hit the portal this… Read more »
Wooh, partner! When you go tossing Nick Patti’s name around, you better watch it. That guy is a god in these parts. Realistically, Patti was not an outstanding recruit. The fascination with him was only in the minds of the Bronco fandom. They thought they got another Kellen Moore. He was undersized and (in the minds of Bronco Nation) underrated. He was ranked average at best. Boise tries the get the guys underrated and have a chip on their shoulder for being overlooked or underrecruited. Frankly for a G5 program that’s a good strategy. And it works, The team with… Read more »
