Happy Fourth of July, folks! While you’re out there celebrating and (hopefully) being safe with your controlled explosives, the countdown marches on. We needed a spot to fill so, technically, Mr. Gaines isn’t 58 but we will somehow persevere. With 58 Days until kickoff we have– RB Sire Gaines

#58 (26), Sire Gaines, Freshman, RB

Stats

Height: 6′

Weight: 208 lbs

High school: Orange Vista HS, Perris, CA

How’d he get to The Blueâ„¢?

By being generally really good at doing what he does: football. A three-star recruit coming out of Orange Vista, he was the third-best athlete out of California and top-70 overall in the nation, per On3, and Rivals had him at 37th best nationally. I don’t know about you, but that’s cool!

He had a host of offers: Arizona State, Arizona, Oregon State, Washington, and Washington State. We all appreciate him doing what he did: choosing Boise State.

Nickname

“Royal”

His actual name is way cooler than I could realistically come up with so I went with the low-hanging fruit.

Look-alike

I think if we squint just right, and give Gaines a beard, he kind of looks like this dude I found on the internets, LeBron James? He a big deal or something?

Career Highlights

Nothing on the Blue yet but he did have 2,079 all-purpose yards his senior year and 27 touchdowns.

2024 Prospectus

I don’t think there is any position that is more straight-forward than running back for Boise State. There is a dude that is going to get all the touches and yards. Everyone else is going to be patient and watch the master at work. Mr. Gaines could see some time in relief, or perhaps special teams? But his Big Man on Campus status is going to have to wait for at least one more year (do we dare hope for two?… Nah, probably not).

So Mr. Gaines certainly has the potential to do great things for Boise State, and he probably will, but the odds of that happening this year aren’t… great.

I want to reiterate here: this has nothing to do with Gaines’ current talent. He would probably start for a whole host of other G5 teams, and certainly other teams in the Mountain West but for now he is going to have to bide his time.

Is he on Twitter?

Completely made up fact

Every Fourth of July Mr. Gaines likes to set off fireworks, natch. But he likes to build his own from scratch. They are often more colorful and louder. So that’s awesome.
