4 Touchdowns and a field goal away from football season, folks! You’d think I’d get tired of that bit, and yet, here I am. 31 days left and today we have Mr. Zion Washington.
#31, Zion Washington, RS Junior, S

Stats
Height: 6’1
Weight: 212
High school: Reedy HS (Frisco, TX)
How’d he get to The Blue™?
Zion came with an interesting offer list: Army, Air Force, and… Georgia Tech? Apparently the spirit of Paul Johnson still roams Atlanta. Nevertheless, the former 3 star recruit made the correct choice to head north to the Gem State.
Nickname
“Zi on-the-Prize”
I told my buddy I was gonna be writing an article about Zion Washington. He suggested “eye on the prize” for the nickname. After about 4 business hours I understood the joke , but it was much to late to recover my shame. Alas, Zion would miss the joke too, but not because he’s dumb like me, but because his eye is on the prize (Idk hopefully that is the CFP but at the very least I hope the prize is something better than caring what First Kick Was Good™ thinks of him)
Look-alike

Today the lookalike machine spit out artist Ne-Yo. I don’t know much about him, but I do remember hearing Time of Our Lives while I ran laps in high school gym class, which I understand the kids are now calling Recession-Era music. I don’t know how that anecdote relates to Zion, but you’re welcome.
Career Highlights
Mr. Washington played in all 14 games last season, including 3 starts. Among these were two different 6 tackle games, one against ND (plus a sack!), and one against San Jose State.
2024 Prospectus
The DB room seems to change everyday now. At the moment, it looks like Zion is behind Teubs in the SS/box safety role, although the fluidity of defensive packages means we will certainly see him on the field in some capacity this season. Knowing how injury history that could mean a lot, and it’s nice knowing we got Zion back there.
Is he on Twitter?
You best believe he is, @ZionWashington_. It’s in his DB blood to post great Tweets, and he doesn’t disappoint!
Completely made up fact
After high school, Zion made the decision to formally change his last name from Zion Texas to Zion Washington. While it’s widely believed this was because of an especially meaningful backpacking trip he had in the Evergreen state, it was actually because the hypnotist the school hired for their grad party, Jake Washington D. C. III. Mr. Washington D. C. III prompted Zion to change his name while under hypnosis, and current Texas law protects decisions made under hypnotic influence.
