This was a battle of heavyweights slugging it out.
Heisman frontrunner Ashton Jeanty was the star of both offenses with 192 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately that wasn’t quite enough to overcome two special teams touchdowns (and Oregon’s own offensive prowess) to keep the winning streak against the Ducks alive.
With four minutes left in the game, the Broncos had a chance to milk the clock, at least some, and then get a field goal to take the win. HOWEVER after a Jeanty four yard run, the Broncos then threw it two times for incompletions and had to punt it. I’m writing this from my desk at home, not a member of the Boise State coaching staff, so I guess that’s whatever. Just kind of seems like we had a couple of dudes in the backfield that could get 6 yards.
The Ducks were able to march down the field to the Broncos’ six for a walk-off field goal to win 37-34 in regulation.
Some notables though: the Boise State defense (mostly the front seven) kept the team in the game with two crucial turnovers that led to 14 points. And were able to sack Ducks QB Dillon Gabriel four times. The Ducks offense had only allowed 10 sacks the last two years. That’s pretty good.
Lots of positives to take away from this game despite the outcome.
Go Broncos!

In 1988 Barry Sanders ran for 2,850 yards
Barry Sanders through 2 games: 335
Ashton Jeanty through 2 games: 459
I’m just saying
Fun game. Visiting section was rocking and blue thunder was putting in the work! I’m befuddled by the play calling late. You don’t leave your prized stallion in the stable when the game is on the line. And special teams… well they weren’t special. Their secondary was very good and out played us. We needed to setup the pass with the run. Not running on first down is stupid. But the team is good. Danielson needs to earn his pay now. Some things must change if we want to play for a Mtn West title! We are close to excellent.… Read more »
It does concern me when the Bronco’s QB is 17 for 40 and the other guy is 18 for 21. Oregon’s coverage was incredible while the Broncos left much to be desired.
Two big runs by the house by the Ducks beat the Broncos. No finger pointing just get the job done.
However, the Broncos had it won. It was close. Close counts in grenades, horseshoes, and rankings.
Two weeks till Portland State followed by Washington State. Boise must dominate both games. They will not crack the top 25 until that happens. Being a homer, I can make an argument for them cracking the top 25 now.
