Speculation started coming on fast and furious on Wednesday night…
This morning, at 7 am, it became official. The Broncos will be added to a new iteration of the “Power 5” conference, previously (and technically still currently and legally) known as the Pac-12, beginning July 1st 2026.
This obviously would have been more exciting news two years ago, with a more intact PAC conference, but…let’s not get it twisted. This is still huge! And, unlike the brief dalliance Boise State had with the Big East (that resulted in basically nothing but a Times Square billboard), this seems like it will actually result in some real, live, actual games.
The schools being mentioned to join the Broncos in what will likely be a “PAC-8” conference are currently Colorado State, Fresno State, and San Diego State. Speculation about who else might join is widespread, but the disinclusion of UNLV, in spite of their regional appeal and recent athletic success, is notable.
Do you have thoughts on this development? Let us know in the comments!

That’s crazy to announce it during the football season. I assumed that all of the moves would happen afterwards. It’s going to be funny when BSU wins the conference championship and the commissioner has to present them with a trophy.
like stocks – look at what’s now, not the past. How many schools are left, and what’s the history of these schools being acknowledged as powerhouses for larger bowls, $’s, etc?
I feel like Memphis and Tulsa would be prime targets as well as UNLV and probably Air Force (even though they run Satan’s offense). Big markets and competitive schools in Football and Basketball for the most part.
Tulane, not Tulsa
This is way off topic, but is anyone knowledgeable on which network the Bronco game will be broadcast? ESPN indicates FoxSports1 but when I pull up the schedule on my tv I get Troy @ Iowa in our time slot. Any input? Thanks.
We have a bye this week and play at 7:45PM in week 4. Troy@Iowa plays at 2PM week 3.
Thank you, thank you. I am afraid my approaching senility is showing.
If you’re looking at this week it’s a bye, Portland State game is next week
Many thank yous. I believe my viejo is apparent.
just moving pieces around
have yet to see anything remotely fair in major CFB, ever
people in charge of ensuring themselves are without bias 🙂
don’t plan on getting excited like “THIS time” I’m going to trust the system and it will work out
not so worried about various conferences since NIL… the players are the actual same guys, in constant flux
Very fun sport, lots of grateful reverent people in it as well, that is the big part imo. Go Broncs!
I suppose they can’t get Cal and Stanford to rejoin?
That John Canzano article that B.J. shared speculates that they may be keeping two seats warm for them in case the ACC implodes.
I think there are probably two schools that are already in but don’t want to be announced until after the season, likely for legal reasons. Possibly recent departures to another conference, and don’t want to cause any further legal issues or ignite mid-season chaos in their conference/s.
