If there’s any justice and common sense in the world, this will just be a precursor to his being named the Heisman Trophy winner for 2024. But in the meantime, Ashton Jeanty has this going for him. Which is nice.
Spencer Danielson Named Mountain West Coach of the Year
Of course he immediately redirected credit where it was due. But now it is our responsibility to circle back and shower some praise back on him. Coach Danielson’s charisma and leadership have rescued this program from an unfortunate low point it found itself in, one year ago.
Boise State Reclaims its Place as a Top Ten Team in the CFP Rankings
Obviously, the top 10 missed us as much as we missed it, and it’s so good to be back!
14 Broncos Named to All Mountain West Teams
Including seven on the first team.
Dirk Koetter Named Broyle’s Award Finalist
As a nice little bonus as Boise State heads into signing day tomorrow, coach Koetter has found himself being considered for *this* major award

It is all for naught if Boise doesn’t beat UNLV Friday.
I’m not sure about “all for naught” but, it will sure a lot of the luster off!!! I really don’t know what to expect this Friday-are we going to come out and steamroll UNLV or, will we be flat and be on the receiving end? Everyone knows they’ll be stacking the box so, will Koetter and the other coaches come up with a game plan to counter that? According to the latest stats, we have the #72 passing offense, while UNLV holds #116. Rushing offense-they are #4 and we’re #6. Against the run, they’re the #10 defense while we’re #17.… Read more »
Many have wondered if Koetter would introduce a new wrinkle to the offense or open things up a bit. One might wonder if such conversations take place between him and Danielson. When Koetter took over before, he called a completely different game. That tells me he’s not set in his ways but calls plays according to the strength of the offensive unit. As to a new wrinkle, this team has been practicing and playing one offense all year long. I don’t expect them to change. All I know is this team is so Jeanty heavy, if he goes down they’re… Read more »
maybe the lack of complexity was because of OL injuries? seems all teams are subject to that?
There didn’t seem to be much of an increase in sacks, nor a decrease in Jeanty’s numbers so, that doesn’t appear to come into play. I’m biased, so I still maintain Koetter is working with limited QB passing ability.
Even though we had a little scrap over Madsen a few days ago, I find your assessment compelling. However, he doesn’t get sacked or toss a lot of INTs. Koetter seems to have coached him to be a possession and game management type of QB. Coaches define what and who they have and play to their strengths as opposed to forcing something they are incapable of doing well. Bobby Petrino, the OC and QB coach at Arkansas, was supposed to develop Green into a winning QB and program. Koetter could have taken Green and made him into a force to… Read more »
Madsen hasn’t had a lot of INT’s caught. If you look at some of the previous games and his ‘almost’ INT’s, he’d be hovering around 7-8 if those were held onto by the defense. I completely agree with the sacks, which is why I don’t think bringing OL injuries into the equation is a valid argument. I am in complete agreement that the GOOD coaches will modify game plans to the QB strengths & weaknesses, which is why I suspect our offense is as it is. Koetter is dealing with a QB on the shorter side, hence the passes batted… Read more »
Those are pretty much my thoughts as well. Something, or someone(s) are holding back what’s in that playbook. When you look back to the beginning of the season, there was more variety than now. That causes me to wonder what changed?
You seem to be an early raiser also.
We aren’t seeing Dylan Riley or Camron Bates. They had effective runs earlier this year. The buzz from fall camp was that Tyler Crowe would see a lot of action as a fullback.
Sometimes it’s hard to decipher what comes from the staff and speculation from the media. I hate it when they say, “Rumors from around the program say…” Rains and Prater are the biggest offenders.
I laughed at your Rains and Prater reference, mainly because it’s true!! I’m an early riser because I’m in the Central Time Zone. I noticed the lack of both RB’s you mentioned as well, and I’ve wondered the same thing. What gives? I was hoping we’d see more of Crowe as a FB, simply to give us one more weapon to open a hole. Just me but, I would think if they’re stacking the box with 7-8, another bulldozer would help. An audible would work too, but since I’m not intimately familiar with how our offense is set up and… Read more »
I like how Rains always says, “You didn’t hear that from here (or me).” And he may not have said it directly but led everyone down the path. Notwithstanding, I do like the coverage Rains provides.
those #’s are without functions of who they were playing, and also aren’t adjusted by injuries returning or lost? intriguing similarity like you say 🙂
Those came from the NCAA stats website. They only compile overall numbers, not game by game, per se, although some stats are per game (i.e. rushing yards, sacks, passing yards).
So far, no QB or RB in the 2025 recruiting class.
The lack of RB’s is surprising. I’m shocked there is no QB (although the pukes from Georgia flipped one).
They had an RB flip to Missouri as well
Boise won part of a NC when they went undefeated and beat OK. Just because the system was sick doesn’t mean the outcome only fit what people decided by voting decisions. Absolute truth is different than politics. This year is different, but if say Army was undefeated the same would apply. Until there’s say 32 teams in the pool, it’s not complete. This year is the best so far though, just not as good as the “lower” tier of football. That said, I hope we win the MW and the NC. Even more so, hope everyone on both sides stays… Read more »
The word around Razorbacks’ country is they have buyer’s remorse regarding TG10.
What??? Say it isn’t so! While I enjoyed watching him tear off a long run now and again, and complete some long passes, he also had a ceiling. I thought Koetter schemed fairly well for the skillset TG possesses. The one outlier (at least) Koetter is now dealing with is stature. I see many similarities between TG10 and Madsen. A few more inches would certainly add a new dynamic to Madsen.
There is a joke in there.
There definitely is, and in my reply as well!
I just saw Arkansas snagged a couple QB’s in their recruiting class. Word around those parts must have some basis to it.
Their top QB recruit’s first name is Madden. I wonder if his nickname is Mad Dog. Green must feel like Chief Inspector Dreyfus; no matter where he goes, Clueseau continues to show up.
By the way, good morning.
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in Boise now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Nicolas’s day.
A little overplayed but what the heck.
