Utter Domination!
Nothing cleanses the pallet better than a blowout win and the Broncos absolutely blew past UNLV, 81-59. Tyson Degenhart led all scoring with 21 points and 11 boards. Alvaro Cardenas added 13 points and 9 assists. Omar Stanley showed why he was picked preseason all-conference with 12 points and 4 rebounds. The Broncos led wire to wire, with their largest lead being 29 points.
Crisis Averted?
One blowout win does not save a season, but boy does it feel good. This game was the opposite of our last game against SDSU. The Broncos dominated on the boards (38-21), won the turnover battle (14-11), and just hustled UNLV out of the building. It was great to see Omar finally looking like himself on both ends of the floor.
Welcome Peanut
In Leon’s more controversial decision so far this season, he decided to burn the redshirt of Pearson Carmichael. This felt like a “break glass in case of emergency” decision from Leon. In a season where the rotations already go 8 or 9 deep, it was initially puzzling to wonder why he would make this decision 15 games into the season. After a couple of minutes, it was easy to determine why Leon had made this decision. The Broncos have struggled to shoot the ball from behind the arc this season, averaging 29%. The only person who made more than 1 three-pointer was, you guessed it: Peanut. Both of his 3-pointers started a 9-0 and a 10-0 run for the Broncos. I look forward to seeing how Leon inserts him into the rotation in the future.
What’s next
Let’s hope the Broncos take what they learned tonight and pack it in their bags. They are off to the Spectrum Center to take on 25th-ranked Utah State on Saturday. It’s been 3 years since the Broncos last won in Logan. If they want to be taken seriously as conference contenders, this win would be a nice feather in the cap.

25% from the three-point arch; not good.
