In the early going of the 2025 NFL Draft, Boise State legend (yes, we can safely use that title already), Ashton Jeanty has had his NFL dream become a reality.

The Newest Las Vegas Raider: Ashton Jeanty

Ashton had been projected as easily the best running back in the draft and–arguably–the top talent overall. Position needs being what they are, and the value of running back still not quite returned to the Reggie-Bush-At-Number-Two-Overall days, he wasn’t the number one pick. He was, however, a school-record #6 overall! Never in the history of Boise State has a player been taken so high and no one deserves it more.

Ever since Ashton Jeanty came on the scene, he’s offered gamebreaking plays on the field and a winning attitude off of it. In his true freshman season in 2022, he had nearly 1,000 yards from scrimmage (821 rushing; 155 receiving) and seven TDs. He was playing behind George Holani, who is a Bronco great at running back in his own right. Jeanty shared the backfield with Holani again in 2023, when Holani came back for a final year, although he struggled to stay healthy. As a result, Ashton got the bulk of the carries and more than doubled his yards from scrimmage in the previous year (1,347 rushing, 14 TDs / 569 yards receiving, 5 TDs). It was foreshadowing for what was to come. In the 2024 season, for Ashton Jeanty’s junior year, he absolutely lit the college football world aflame with 2,601 rushing yards; a mere 27 shy of Barry Sanders’ all-time record! He scored 29 rushing TDs and threw in 138 receiving yards and another score, for good measure. His efforts propelled the Broncos to a Mountain West Championship winning season and their first appearance (hopefully of many!) in the college football playoff. As far as individual accolades, he was the second place finisher in the Heisman Trophy voting (number 1 in the peoples’ hearts!) and the Maxwell Award winner. His yards after contact in 2024 were more than the next closest running back in the country had total yards.

Throughout his time at Boise State, Ashton was an incredible ambassador for the program, and one of the most humble players in college football, despite his accolades. Bronco Nation is very excited for him to get a chance to show what he can do at the NFL level.
