The Newest Lion: Ahmed Hassanein
The Hassassin very much took the road less traveled to end up at Boise State. He was actually born in the US but moved to Cairo, Egypt at age six. While growing up there, he became a crossfit champion. His brother–a former college teammate of Boise State head football coach, Spencer Danielson–convinced him to come back to the US to play high school football. He took that opportunity and turned it into a three-star recruiting ranking and a Boise State offer.
For the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Ahmed was in the rotation and even started a couple games, but 2023 is when he truly broke out. In that season–his junior year–he started 14 games and racked up 12.5 sacks and 16.5 TFLs. Following that, he took on even more of a leadership role on the team in his senior year and on the field was just as impactful, although his sacks dipped to 9.5 and TFLs to 15.5. He also made an impression on the national scene when clips from this interview went viral, following the Fiesta Bowl loss.
At 6’2″ and 267lbs, Ahmed had impressive testing numbers and his 22 sacks over the last two seasons clearly got the attention of NFL scouts. He would score very high on the GRIT index for Dan Campbell’s Lions too. He now has an opportunity to make his mark at the next level and we could not be more stoked (especially me, as a Lions fan since age 7!) for the player or the person. Congrats, Ahmed!

I see that Braxton Fely has withdrawn from the portal. I’m wondering if it’s a coach’s decision to allow him to return, the team leadership, or the team as a whole? I guess the grass isn’t bluer on the other side of the fence.

SB Nation still owns it. And the site is still up. No idea why, but it is. We just no longer have editing access and nothing has been posted there since 2022. They’ve retained live hosting of it for…reasons we don’t know 🤷♂️
Thanks, Mike. I don’t mean to be a nuisance, but like others, I’ve invested much time in this site. Not nearly as much as the writers, but this is the premier site for Bronco fans, and I’d like to see it remain so.
Appreciate that and you’re not a nuisance at all! We are thankful to you for being a part of and contributing to the site so consistently. Just letting you know that’s where things stand with that name. And even if we changed it from “.com”, we’d be competing in search engine optimization against almost 15 years of our work (on a site that isn’t even publishing anything new since we left).
I don’t hate them for what they did, but it would seem only fair if they’d give up the name to the folks who poured their blood into the site.
I say we start a smear campaign & recruit Russian hackers to nuke the site. Scorched earth policy. If we can’t have it, no one can!

I’m curious how the Cam Camper situation played. He received an extra year of eligibility then transferred to USF and there was talk about him lining up against us opening weekend in Tampa and then he just signed with the Jax Jaguars as a free agent so that makes us look good, but that is a weird zig zag situation. Nice to see Teubner go to the Raven & Dooley to the Rams. We just got that hotshot DB from Eastern Washington & another Australian punter from Weber State. Like the pay raise. JFR’s departure is not a big loss. This past season, his average dropped significantly. Of course, he was also asked to punt short more often (the Broncos did not often give up the ball deep in their territory). One Aussie leaves, another arrives. That ‘get’ from EWU is a good one. Camper is not a happy camper. While at Boise, Danielson said they tried three ways from Sunday to get him an extra year of eligibility.
