Folks. We’re back. Just 100 short days now until your call-out-of-work 3:30PM Thursday kickoff in Tampa. Welcome back to almost kinda close to football season.

#18, Jack Benson, Junior, QB

Stats

Height: 6-4

Weight: 195

High school: Eagle HS (Eagle, ID)

How’d he get to The Blueâ„¢?

Jack took the scenic route from Eagle and Centennial high schools—first committing to Idaho State and then switching over to a place called Citrus College.

Interestingly enough, Citrus College is just a 3 minute walk from Azuza Pacific University, old stomping grounds of the Big Manâ„¢ Spencer Danielson. (Side note: After Chris Peterson’s UC Davis legacy and SD’s at Azuza Pacific, should we start considering non-FBS California school legacy a head coaching requirement?)

Returning to our regularly scheduled programming, Mr. Benson then made the 14 minute drive to Mt. San Antonio College for his sophomore year, before ultimately returning to Boise as a PWO.

Nickname

“Captain Jack”

Both his Twitter and his email use J_Bone, which feels thematically relevant to Captain Jack Sparrow piracy. There’s a few ways we could go with this. Plundering opposing secondaries? Collecting valuable trophies? Both would be welcome.

I’m really seeing a young Zac Effron here. We’re all in this together.

Career Highlights

None in the Blue and Orange, but here’s a look from his Citrus College days:

2025 Prospectus

It would likely take a cascade of terrible events (see BYU 2020) for Jack to see the field this year. But at least for the future, we do have some recent precedent for local walk-on QBs making it on scholarship with Max Cutforth. That future situation is muddied by the two quarterbacks who recently committed to the Broncos for next year, but the fickle nature of the QB position puts us firmly in a never-say-never position.

Is he on Twitter?

He is (@QBJ_Bone), and is good for a retweet every couple weeks.

Completely made up fact

Jack hates podcasts. He’s always said, “If you have something important to say, write it on the back of a postcard or on a dedicated fan blog site that’s stayed resilient and relevant despite changes to the site domain thanks to high quality writing that’s both witty and informative”, and I think he makes a good point.
