What’s this? A second straight game at home? How fortuitous!
The first half saw some big swings by both teams, highlighted by Dylan Riley’s electric runs. He had ended the first half with 157 yards rushing on seven attempts (22.4 yards/carry) and a touchdown.
Anthony Colandrea was a force for the Rebels generating 129 yards by himself with 64 yards rushing and 165 passing.
Jadon Mickey in the first half highlighted why he is such a stalwart for the Broncos with a crucial pass break up and a sack on Colandrea. Mickey also added two tackle-for-loss for 13 yards.
The Broncos were efficient with the ball scoring on four of the their eight first half possessions. Though the last two appeared to be more about draining the clock for the half (the first one was… not successful). The Rebels decided to keep it close by taking most of possessions on the clock, and drives, with about 18 minutes of possession and nine drives. They ran a successful two-minute drill that saw Colandrea score the last of the half.
The second half saw the Broncos hit their stride and score 28-straight points (21 for the third quarter) before UNLV score a late garbage TD with 2:45 left.
Dylan Riley capped off a phenomenal game with 201 yards rushing (a long of 65-yards) and one touchdown.
Madsen needed heat up a bit but with decent time in the pocket he went 14-23 for 253 passing yards, four TDs, and an interception (that was tipped by a wide receiver). Another solid game from Mad Dog but he does seem to be laying a touch more conservative.
A’Marion McCoy captured his second Pick 6 of the season to go along with one tackle.
Ty Benefield was all over the field with seven tackles (six solo), a TFL, and a pass break up.
Overall the defense DID have a solid game despite 476 of total offense. Colandrea generated 302 of that. Credit where credit is due on that.

Talk about the life of Riley. A’Marion is the real McCoy. Hope Ben Ford is not done for. Madsen really started rough. Ended solid. Sharrod suffers from dropsy. O-line dominated. Secondary has really come a long way. Next week, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Doyle as Madsen’s backup. He’s two for two with one TD. Papadakis and Hellie were the announcers for the Boise/UNLV game and did the New Mexico/Nevada game. FS 1 must think the MWC is too insignificant to rate different announcers for each game. Good game all the way around. Glad to see the passing game open up to more receivers. Madsen has some Bachmeir in him for sure. He can make the throws. If he makes them better those receivers score points. It’s only a gripe you make if you expect the team to rise up a level. Great work by the front 7 today. Wow! That was unexpected, sad.
Just read an article that said he died in Oakland police custody. Police were called to an address related to an armed robbery. The story as far as I can tell is that he was apprehended and then had a medical event and the cops called medics. He passed at the hospital. From what I read, the cops involved were put on leave until the investigation is resolved.
Terrible all around. RIP Doug Martin.
Sadly, I wouldn’t be surprised to see if the autopsy reveals illegal substances, given his slide toward the end of his career.
