Other facts
1. Gameday Poster
One last ride for 2025!
2. Injury Report
No injuries to report, but Spencer Danielson announced that Kage Casey will be opting out of this one. Washington doesn’t have any opt-outs, making for a now-unusual bowl game of teams at (mostly) full strength.
3. THREADZ
I know you are all dying to know tomorrow’s uniform combo, but no report on this. It appears we’ve been relegated to the stone age (maybe 5 years ago) where we didn’t know the uniform they were wearing until we got there!
4. BLITZ LAST DANCE
At the LA Bowl press conference, Gronk conceded that while he didn’t feel like he cheated in his last race against Blitz, he fully intended to do so! As for this race, we know from his end of career with Tom Brady that Gronk enjoys helping legends go out with a bang, so this race could go either way.
5. Remember when?
Why stop at a highlight vid when you can simply watch the whole game? Throwback to the only* time I can remember Boise State play Washington in the Las Vegas Bowl.
*Okay, while it is fun to lie about these things, I quite literally was not living the US that year and had no access to watch the 2019 game so it’s technically the truth!
Streaks
Boise State – Won 3
Washington – Lost 1
Best Name On Their Roster
(Both photos from gohuskies.com)
Ephesians Prysock, DB

Colossal miss by Spencer Danielson to not pick up Ephesians. Worse yet, Mr. Prysock is a senior, presumably devoid of future college eligibility. How will this effect SD’s legacy?
Best Picture On Their Roster
Zach Durfee, EDGE

My barber got confused yesterday when I told him, “I want it to look like I have mini rocket launchers on my ears”, so I showed him a pic of Zach Durfee for reference.
Players To Watch
Demond Williams, QB
I’ve seen a few people call him “a better Anthony Colandrea” which means we can put at least a few annoying scrambles on the books. On the other hand, we did pretty well against Colandrea (minus that annoying 2nd/3rd quarter bit there), so perhaps the Broncos defense rises to the level of the next challenge?
Alex McLaughlin, S
McLaughlin was the only Husky to pick up a Big-10 all-conference nod, garnering an honorable mention. The junior nabbed 2 picks and lead the Husky squad in tackles (admittedly I have often chosen the tackle leader for my pick, although this time it was not intentional) He’s a leader on a very good Washington defense. Okay, full disclosure—I have no idea if he’s a leader or not. Totally possible that everyone hates him, but he does for sure lead the stat sheet, which is something!
Matchup(s) to Watch
Shoutout to cfb-graphs.com for the matchup table as always. Go follow Parker Fleming on Twitter though, he’s great.
Offense

Washingon’s defense is interesting in that it gives up a lot of quality drives, but doesn’t allow a lot of points on those drives. A major key to the game for Boise State will be to take home 6 points on their quality drives. It’ll probably involve some trickery and risks—something that Boise State has never ever been known to do.
Defense

The defense has made admirable strides in the “quality points” game the last few weeks, although the final exam is tomorrow. If 7 points can be turned into 3, we have a game. The other one to look out for is a strength-on-strength matchup. Huskies convert late downs, Broncos stop them. If you forced me to choose, I’ll admit I’d prefer the Broncos to be doing more stopping than giving up.
Keys to Victory
Turnover War
It’s not enough to win the turnover battle, we must win the turnover war. Broncos lost that handily in Tampa and South Bend, and it’s a non-negotiable tomorrow at SoFi.
MAD DOG
Y’all know I’ve been on the Madsen train for some time now. That said, his big game performance ceiling has thusfar maxed out at UNLV. The Rebels have been quality team, but Madsen has a lot to prove with his ability against the upper echelon. Now, I’ll add that the WR group is not blameless in the aforementioned Big Game Blues, perhaps Chase Penry’s late season emergence could show its head once more?
Score Prediction
A reminder that the First Kick style guide requires a Boise State victory in our predictions. Now you might say, “well okay but at that point you guys are basically just propaganda” and like, yeah? What did you think you were reading? I’ll say a pair of turnovers and a key 4th quarter drive will give the Broncos their first P4 win in too many years.
Boise State 21, Washington 17

I was going to say Boise by 17, but with Kage out Madsen only completes 40% of his throws.
Curse you Kage Casey!
BSU 17
Dogs 13
I guess I’m a little conflicted about Kage Casey opting out. I suppose it’s like saying this game is not important enough. I’ll say no more. And I’m mystified about this Maddux Madsen narrative about him “reaching his ceiling.” That is so empty. I suppose it means he can’t get better. Such a comment dismisses a myriad of other factors that make a player better. Does it mean he will never throw better passes? Does it mean he will never improve on reads? Does it mean he will never be able to find better targets? Does it mean he will… Read more »
Receivers who can catch the ball is just a thing of mythological tall tales.
But seriously, Kage’s absence is going to make Madsen play on his heals. Hopefully he can scramble and make up the difference with his feet.
Otherwise, it could be a long day. Is Cutforth upto the dog challange?
By ceiling, I just meant this is the best he’s played *so far*. He can certainly get better, but hasn’t had a complete game against top tier comp (did have 1st half against Oregon and 3 quarters against PSU). Just hoping I can see him take the next step today!
I understood your use of “ceiling.” And I was not referring directly to your use. The word triggered me. I read and hear so many “experts” talk about how Madsen has reached his “ceiling” and we’ve already seen his best version.
I can agree he has had some less-than-stellar performances; however, I maintain that only average performances by receivers can mitigate them.
Madsen can’t place the ball where it is, anywhere near 50/50. His balls must be placed where there is zero chance of them being intercepted.
