How’d he get to The Blue™?
Mr. Stege came to Boise State all the way from Cologne, Germany (obvs). Stege was a three-star athlete out of high school where he played for a club team called the Cologne Crocodiles. He was also offered by Eastern Michigan and Houston.

“Stegehammer”
Yes. I recognize his name isn’t pronounced “Stedge”

Career Highlights
Max has carved out a nice little career over here. In 38 career games, he’s racked up 43 tackles (12 for loss) 4 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Last season, he started all 14 games. He didn’t have many sacks last year, but the entire Boise State defense went backwards on that front in 2025, going from #1 in 2024 (with 55) to dropping out of the top 50 last season (with 28). Even if Chinander corrects that in 2026, Stege’s role isn’t necessarily the “get as many sacks as possible” kind of EDGE anyway. So his contributions might not jump off the stat sheet, but he’s been very consistent, reliable, and effective in the role he plays.
2026 Prospectus
Just as he did last year, I expect Max to start on one side of the defensive line and be sturdy run defender with a little bit of some pass rush juice when the situation calls for it.
Is he on Twi/X?
Yep and his page is here. But, at least right now, it’s largely reposts. Seems to be a trend.
Completely made up fact
Another psychology major, Max doesn’t talk trash to opponents. He instead offers constructive emotional feedback, which makes them at least 20% less aggressive when attempting to block him. Playing actual mind games. Diabolical.

Yesterday, Nathan Carroll featured Stege on BNN. The feelings are pretty much the same as here. He has to show more than he has so far. But, hey, America is the land of opportunity.
