Taylen Green Is Officially Gone

Boise State has dealt with a LOT of excitement and volatility in the last few weeks. The highest highs were that the Broncos went from a .1% chance of even playing in the Mountain West Championship to actually winning the thing and that Ashton Jeanty reaffirmed his commitment to Boise State. One of the less ideal “lows”, however, is that it became official today that Taylen Green is leaving Boise State to continue the rest of his college athletic career at the University of Arkansas.

Obviously, this is not the preferred outcome. It’s likely that Taylen took into account the fact that he was officially supplanted as the starter at QB before the New Mexico game, and that it was primarily due to an MCL tear (just before halftime of that game–terrible luck for all involved) to the quarterback that replaced him that he ended up starting in and winning the remainder of those games. That said, it was always entirely possible that Taylen and Madsen could have had an open competition in the fall that he may have come out on top of. However, with the rules as they are presently constituted, Taylen opted to take the opportunity to transfer and will be trying his luck (and considerable skills) in the SEC in 2024. We harbor no ill will, are in fact grateful for his contributions as a Bronco, and wish him all the best! That is…unless Boise State ends up in a bowl game vs Arkansas next season! If it makes you feel any better, he’s far from the only quarterbackparticularly the second from an Idaho university–that’s seeking opportunities elsewhere. This thread is a great summary of Taylen’s time in Boise:

Coach Avalos Statement and New Gig

No one had heard a peep from Coach Avalos until Jay Tust got in touch with him last night and got a statement from him. Avalos also got a strong parting endorsement from a former Bronco WBB legend, Brooke Pahukoa:

This adds some closure to the bittersweet Bronco coaching career of a legendary former Bronco linebacker. As for his coaching future, Coach Avalos has accepted a position to be the defensive coordinator for one of the participants in last season’s national championship game; Boise State’s old G5 rival, TCU:

Interesting Developments

As of last night, Ashton Jeanty was leading the votes as the name for one of Boise’s snow plows

In addition to having a snow plow named after him, Ashton and the king of punters, James Ferguson-Reynolds, were named to the AP’s All-America teams:

Lastly, East Carolina and Boise State have canceled their upcoming matchups for football:
