The Broncos are set up for a heck of a first year in the expanded playoff era!
On top of the fact that Boise State will be entering this season with one of the better offensive coordinators in the country, a former number one overall recruit, TWO potentially game-breaking receivers, and a whooooole lot of returning talent…we now get to look forward to a schedule that includes THREE p5 opponents. And not just ho-hum, aggressively average p5 teams, but three that are generally pretty good!
The first of which is Oregon. They are coming off of a season where they only lost two games. Both of those losses were to the same team: the National Championship game participant Washington Huskies. Both losses were also very close. This matchup gives Boise State the chance to go 4-0 all time against the Ducks.
Next up is Washington State. They are not a powerhouse, per se, but they’re typically solid and their offense is almost always great. This would, of course, give Boise State the chance to avenge that heartbreaking triple overtime loss in 2017. A game which, may I remind you, before Brett Rypien was smashed by Hercules and left the game, Boise State was leading 31-10 in the 4th quarter. I was there that day, seven years ago…still mad 😑. Let’s get back in the W column vs the other team from the western W state!
The last of the notable P5 opponents is Oregon State. We simply owe them a better showing and an L for the performance in Corvallis in 2021. Which…let’s be honest…three first half turnovers, early, by a since-departed player, played an outsized role in that loss. I hear you. I wanted him to be successful too! It just, unfortunately, did not work out that way. Anyway, here’s the schedule:
Anything that you are particularly excited about? Eager to get some revenge on a couple of Pac 12– 4 teams? Let us know in the comments!

Ducks will be in the pre-season top 10. This would be a game to let loose of a few years of pent-up frustration. The Broncos haven’t smashed an elite program in the mouth for a long time.
Ducks will probably be #3 & it will probably be Oregon vs. Ohio State for the Big Ten title in December. I don’t Boise State a chance, BUT I believe it will be more competitive than the Washington game, BUT it all comes together nicely, I think Boise can go 11-1 in 2024 plus a MWC championship & hopefully a spot in tgr playoffs.
The October game in Vegas fascinates me as does the Washington State game along with the Thanksgiving game against Oregon State.
The two Bye Weeks will be critical this year for resting the team.
I don’t think you’ll see the Ducks in the Big title game. However, what I “think” is very unimportant. Likely the Ducks won’t have a lot of trouble handling the Broncos. One can hope, though. It would be nice to have one of the byes toward the end of the season. Boise must keep as many as possible injury-free or capable of playing at a high level with an injury. Frankly, after a couple of games, everybody plays with something. Boise employs the next man up mentality; the next man up had better be the next man who’s up to… Read more »
I definitely think Boise will come to play & be far better prepared for Oregon than it was for Washington this past season.
Then again, before the Washington game, if I had told you that Washington was going to be playing Michigan for the national championship in January, would you have believed me?
No, I saw a Georgia/Ohio State championship. Anyway. teams have to have something to play for. The great teams of yore played with the belief if they win they will get a chance for a Natty. A team in Boise State’s strata must win them all–and convincingly. They, first of all, have to believe that themselves. Nobody will let you slip in the back door and that’s not the way you want it anyway. You want others to believe you are good enough also. I just rewatched a couple of old BSU/OSU games. The Broncos were a team in every… Read more »
I’d really like to make it out to a game this year when do tickets go on sale?
An exciting season coming up. I wasn’t initially psyched about the SD hire but he has continued to pleasantly surprise me. Every time I think something is gonna derail us, SD doubles down and makes the situation even better than it was before. This is a BIG offseason. We got a lot of growing and gelling to do. I am excited to see what Koetter can do with a full offseason and actual season. That’s a lot of offensive potential. As with any year though, a lot of our success is gonna come down to our line play…on both sides… Read more »
Already have my tickets to the Oregon game secured. Not on the 40 like the first time we beat them but I’ll just be happy to be in the stands and watch us compete. And for the record, the chances of us winning that game way back in 2008 were just as low according to fans and pundits as this upcoming game. Believe it or not, Moore was still an unknown quantity heading into that game. He wasn’t after though. Hoping to relive that magic. It was spectacular!!! You better believe Oregon is going to be looking to get this… Read more »
What website do you go through to get the tickets?
Good for you, Boise. As stated before, I rewatched that 2008 game recently. And indeed it struck me that Moore was not yet a legend in college football. One thing that caught me from that game was Moore’s athleticism. He was very good from side to side. I know he wasn’t a good open-field runner or a good 40-man but was incredibly gifted at slipping tackles. His rollouts were like a ballet. Moore had the gift for winning. I recall the infamous Nevada game; put the ball into the guy who can handle the pressure–Moore. Don’t go for the field… Read more »
