Stats
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 275 lbs (+9)
High school: Because he is from Germany and played for a club team, information on Stege’s prep school life is hard to find but it’s also not particularly relevant as it’s not tied to his football career. I’m sure he was a great student though!
How’d he get to The Blue™?
As previously alluded to, Max comes to Boise State from much further away than most. He hails from the city of Cologne, Germany, where he played on a club team, the Cologne Crocodiles. I’ll be the first to admit that I was unaware of the existence of reptilian apex predators that appreciate smelling nice and reside in Germany, but that’s life, right? Live and learn. At any rate, Mr. Stege was a three star athlete. He was offered by a number of smaller schools state-side, with his most prominent (other) potential suitors including Eastern Michigan and Houston.
Nickname
“Stacks Sacks Max”
Here’s hoping he will, indeed, stack sacks. Because if Boise State could get a pass rusher to complement Ahmed? Ow-wee!
Look-alike

Actor, writer, and producer, Seth Rogen, but very specifically only in this photo.
I promise, I have nothing personal against Max! That comparison was generated by AI. So, blame Skynet!
Career Highlights
As a true freshman in 2023, he appeared in 10 games. His best game was at Utah State, where he had 2 tackles and a half sack. Additionally (and again, information on Max is hard to come by) there is this glowing piece written about him by a European publication. There is also his highlight reel to consider. It shows a defensive end that has prototype size for the position and displays impressive play strength and instincts.
2024 Prospectus
In terms of returning talent at end, Boise State returns The Hassassin, which is HUGE. Other than that, there’s Woodard (a transfer), Wegis, and a few young and/or local guys. The opportunity is there for someone to seize the initiative across from Ahmed. I think it’s entirely possible that Stege (or Wegis) has the capability, in terms of both talent and size, to be that complement to Hassanein.
Is he on Twitter?
Yes. Especially if you like the almost-exclusively-retweets brand of social media interaction.
Completely made up fact
Once his football career concludes, Max has aspirations to go into artisanal bratwurst-making.
Completely NOT made up fact…that sounds great. Because, while nobody wants to see how it gets made, at the end of the day, you still end up with a bunch of delicious sausage. And that’s just a net win!

That’s impressive as a freshman and seeing some action and getting some action. However, there’s something that smells funny about the guy.
Let’s see we’ve had players from Great Britain, The Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Somoa, by way of Italy, and now Germany. We can’t say we’re truly an international program until we get somebody from Mississippi.
