Broncos come out of a bye with a cruising win against Portland State 56-14.
Heisman candidate Ashton Jeanty had 127 rushing yards (a long of 68) with no touchdowns and didn’t see the second half. Which is good. Keep him off the field as much as possible without endangering the game. Mr. Jeanty the ‘no touchdowns’ thing is kind of weird but Sometimes that happens, I guess.
Cam Bates scored the games first touchdown on a 20 yard run on the third play. He ended the game the highest yards per rush average with 20. Seems ripe for an RB controversy to me.
After the Broncos’ score, the defense had a few issues and, being polite here, accidentally let Portland State score knotting the score seven all. I do blame some lack of discipline and the Broncos playing a tad too aggressive. BUT they did get it together the rest of the game (for the most part anyway).
I guess the Broncos are involving tight ends now?
Mr. Matt Lauter had the audacity to lead all Bronco receivers with a whopping seven catches on nine targets, 91 yards, and a touchdown. Is that good? Seems good.
The game kind of played out how you would expect: Broncos scored a lot, the Vikings scored one more garbage touchdown.
We did get to see Malachi Nelson get into the game. He was 5-8 for 66 yards. Even third-stringer Max Cutforth got to see some time, going 2-2 and 13 yards. Hilariously enough during Cutforth’s first series, he handed the ball off to Dylan Riley who scampered off for a 64-yard score.
Unfortunately Sire Gaines did have to leave the game early due to injury, one of those nefarious hip-drop tackles. Godspeed Mr. Gaines and an early recovery, whatever that looks like.
After the rough start, it was nice just coasting the rest of the game with a good win.
Next week the Broncos host Washington State.

Well, that sure started out interesting! Clearly PS was keying on Jeanty, seen by the very open receivers. I was bummed to see Jeanty have such a short game but, that is very understandable. Why risk injury to a second RB, especially when there is no need? At times, Madsen had some really good throws. Other times, not so much (missing wide-open receivers). I’m still not completely sold on him. That being said, Nelson was okay. Not having the playing time shows, which is natural. It was nice to see him out there though! It took the announcers a bit… Read more »
The last time BSU played PS, I came away with meh. A win. It’s like when some drunk little guy picks out a big guy to fight in a bar. The big guy slaps him around and tosses him out. And the jukebox never stops playing and nobody misses a swallow. The big guy ain’t even gonna brag about the fight. However, it looked to me as if Gains’ injury may be significant–I hope not. MD dropped a couple of nice passes in the basket for Cam Martin. Martin didn’t look too jubilant on the sidelines. Teammates came up to… Read more »
