A happy Sunday to you and yours! Hopefully you’re not secretly a too-online Kansas State fan who has to make a Taco Bell run at some point today.
Some musings on the game:
- Scoring 5 rushing touchdowns without Jeanty getting a single one of them is actually jarring.
- The fact that Sire Gaines wasn’t on that list either is even MORE jarring.
- (please be ok, Sire!)
- I know we had the countdown but I would have sworn to you Tyler Crowe had graduated and was now picking up hot moms in the CFL or something.
- Once again, TIGHT ENDS ARE SO BACK. I anticipate a Tom Scott feature praising this tactic.
- Special Teams has been downgraded to “Microsoft Teams” until further notice.
- JFR wildly oscillating between trash punts and “oh my god it’s hideous but it works!” is really something, but please let him just #NukeTheFootball again.
- The fact the O-line really does open up holes that pretty much anybody can run through really makes my heart sing.
- I am starting to believe in #TheStable when we can just plug in random backs for yards, even if it’s just Portland State.
- First-quarter Defense needs to just not be like that anymore.
- Dirk Koetter is a master troll. Sticking Malachi Nelson in and just having him be a handoff machine for that first series was a hilarious way to thumb his nose at all of us.
- The “oops, all local kids” offense was fun for a minute there.
Not a lot to glean from this one for me, mostly a solid win firing on most cylinders, and one last dress rehearsal for Special Teams to get the giggles out.
Anything stand out to y’all?

For kickoffs: kick hard hit squibs aimed at the first level blockers. Let kickers get creative and hit benders etc. that are hard to avoid.
Will give up some yards overall, but reduce big plays a lot, and also generate some turnovers over time.
Never do anything else.
If they avoid the area, onsides and recovery. If they put hands in all the time, squib around them and see if they like to block LB’s.
I like this. Hard line drives right at the first row. Every time. Make it ridiculous. They know it’s coming. Along with the LBs.
The real QB competition is who is number 2 and who is number 3. Ashton no second half; good call. It looks as if Sire is out for a while. It’s about time to see Breezy. Tight ends have earned their targets. TG10 got pulled for a series for the Razorbacks; sound familiar? Special teams??? Mad Dog passed for 3 and ran for 1. There’s a lot of life in Riley. Cam Martin shouldn’t brood. Portland is not a good team. If this were last year’s team and HC; the score would have been 35 to 30, BSU. And 28,832… Read more »
My understanding is Breezy is recovering from an injury.
That is my understanding too, but SD said he could be used if needed.
I was texting with my son during the game (we live across the country from each other) about the kickoffs. It seems to me one possibility is they were trying to get special teams some real time practice. Our OL is the real deal. They have been consistent against all three teams thus far. It does my heart good to see tractor-trailer size holes for the RB’s. Speaking of RB’s, I was bummed that Jeanty didn’t get 300 yards and 6 more TD’s but, it’s far more important for him to be healthy for the rest of the season, especially… Read more »
Well, at least Chucky Cheese will have good pizza for a day.
Is that even possible????
Many thoughts:
1. Overall, a dominant performance.
2. It looked like a pretty significant ankle sprain for Sire. I hope he didn’t break it.
3. I’ve been excited for Nelson. Now, I realize that Madsen is by far the best option right now.
4. Our D struggles to contain mobile quarterbacks. Wazzu’s guy can run …. I hope Chinander can scheme/coach them up this week.
I think the boys looked good for about 3+ quarters. The next REAL test is coming into Bronco stadium this week.
