I’m out of (unsually minimally) witty ways to say football season is so close, but FOOTBALL SEASON IS SO CLOSE, YOU GUYS. Obviously, there have already been some contests that have taken place, but it’s not really on until the first Bronco game. Today, we highlight #4 in our programs…

Stats
Height: 5’10
Weight: 207 (+6)
High school: American Fork HS (American Fork, UT)
How’d he get to The Blueâ„¢?
As a high school junior, he threw for 4,044 yards and 48 TDs. He ended up changing schools in time for baseball season his senior year and led his new team, Lehi High School, to their first state championship since 1981. Per broncosports.com: “he pitched and played infield that season (hit .455 with 11 2Bs, 4 HRs and 42 RBI)”
Maddux was part of the inaugural Avalos class in 2021. He got the offer after Katin Houser de-committed from Boise State to Michigan State, and it seems like it’s worked out very nicely for us. He was rated as the #21 high school player in Utah and designated a 3 star QB. Madsen chose the Broncos over the Lobos of New Mexico.
Nickname
“Mad Dog”
This nickname has been with him since at least high school, and it seems to fit with his playing style, where he demonstrates great toughness and fearlessness. Especially when he decides to tuck the ball and run it. But…judging from the season ending injury incurred on one of those runs in 2023, we should all hope it’s not frequently necessary for him to do that!
Look-alike

Star of one of the most underrated horror movies, and the son of actors Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, Wyatt Russell
Career Highlights
Maddux outplayed Taylen Green, which led to a rare midseason QB change in 2023, before suffering a season-ending injury. He followed that up in 2024 by first beating out the former #1 high school recruit (in the entire country; all positions) and then put together an incredibly efficient 2024 campaign. Maddux threw for 3,018 yards, 23 TDs, and 6 INTs. He added another 221 yards and 5 TDs on the ground. He had zero fumbles. The offense was very productive under Maddux’s leadership. Considering how much the offense was weighted toward Jeanty and running, 28 total touchdowns, with only six total turnovers of any kind, is a more than respectable season. It’s actually just really good.
Also, if interested, the majority of his high school highlights can be found here. The one below is pretty good too!
2025 Prospectus
Things are looking very bright for Madsen’s 2025 season. Maddux is not just the starting quarterback, but also very much a leader of the whole team. Most of the offensive line is returning, and he has some incredibly dependable targets coming back in Lauter and Caples. Chris Marshall, Cameron Bates, and a few others also have high potential. Add that to the fact that the running back room is brimming with talent and that Madduxn himself is older and wise, and it’s VERY easy to get excited about what he might achieve in his junior campaign.
Is he on Twitter?
@MadduxMadsen, if you want to follow him. He even occasionally does more than retweet!
Completely made up fact
Because his nickname could just as easily be “Mad Max”, Maddux felt he would be a good fit for one of the Mad Max sequels. In preparation for the role, he grew out his hair and a mustache. Unfortunately, he misread the title and withdrew himself from consideration when he realized he had mistaken “Mad Max: Fury Road” as “Mad Max: Furry Road” (not THAT kind of furry–get off the internet, you!). However, he decided he enjoyed the extra utilization of follicles and kept the look for good.

It’s going to be interesting to watch this year’s team unfold. With the talent spread throughout the RB’s, plus a more experienced QB, are we in for a stellar season, one where the opposing defenses will have to account for far more than Jeanty? Watching through some of last year’s highlights, you could see defenses were aware of Madsen but, they weren’t afraid of him like they were Jeanty. We have at least three RB’s who can produce numbers. I don’t think we’ll see boxes routinely stacked with 8-9, so who knows what might take place? I’m looking forward to… Read more »
I’m very much looking forward to Madsen’s progress, but I’m honestly so excited to see what the running backs do. Sire, healthy, and +20 lbs is going to be a terror.
This version of the Broncos will be the Madsen/lPotter version, rather than the Jeanty/Koetter version. I hated to see Bolt leave the program. Although not a premier receiver, his downfield blocking was elite. However, it appears as if Madsen will have two all-conference receivers, Marshall and Caples. If they stay healthy, look out! Madsen’s record is impressive. Last season, his only two losses came at the hands of two premier programs, Oregon and Penn State. Madsen’s greatest strength is his heart. It makes up for other things he may lack. It reminds me of Kellen Moore – not fast, a… Read more »
GREATEST quarterback?? Man…I hope you’re right.
He has two years to prove it – or not.
Mad Dog is the one most widely accepted, so it should be. But why not Mad Duck?
Well, obviously, because we are constitutionally unable to speak positively about ducks in these parts. Especially now that they finally won one against us.
(Only took them 17 years!)
How right you are. I only thought about the “dux” in Madsen’s name and not the team to the west of us. My bad.
