Final Score Boise State 7, SDSU 17
First Quarter
In a game where both offenses struggle to throw the football, the run game will be the focal point. The torrential downpour largely necessitated that. In the first quarter, there were a staggering 7 possessions. All 7 possessions were punts. The only good thing to take from that quarter was the fact that they weathered the monsoon and didn’t fumble.
Second Quarter
Touchdown SDSU 0-7
- Thanks to a 41-yard rush from Christian Washington, the SDSU drive ended with a QB sneak to give the Aztecs the first points of the game.
Touchdown Boise State 7-7
- On the back of Sire Gaines’ hard running, the Broncos put together an 80 yard drive. Dylan Riley was the one that actually punched it in to get the Broncos on the board.
Touchdown SDSU 7-14
- A 14 play, 71 yard drive ends with an 8 yard QB draw TD for SDSU.
Halftime Boise State 7, San Diego State 14
- At the half, SDSU’s QB was 3/6 with -5 passing yards. He had yet to throw the ball past the line of scrimmage
- Also at the half, Boise State rushing yards: 121. SDSU rushing yards: 166
Third Quarter
- Just a dud. More punting yards than passing yards at this point, for both teams.
Fourth Quarter
Field Goal SDSU 7-17
- A 41 yard field goal by SDSU put them up 2 scores.
Missed Field Goal Boise State 7-17
- Boise State’s backup QB, Max Cutforth, finally gets permission to start throwing the ball. They march into field goal range and…wiiiiiiiiiide left
Final Score 7-17
Well, for those who stuck out that train wreck, you deserve all the ice cream you can eat. The rain was a curveball, for sure. Max didn’t even play badly, because he barely got a chance to play QB at all. Just a wholly uninspired game of offensive play calling and sloppy tackling on defense.

None of us can say this surprised us. So let’s have some fun here! Its all we can do now. What record will boise end up.with and what bowl will they draw? I say they go 8-4 and get a bowl game in the DFW metro area . Against who ? Probably an AAC team. ESPN will wheel and deal this. We know it won’t be the Hawaii or Potato bowl. ( For some reason Hawaii doesn’t mind playing a bowl game at home). Btw? Everybody route for James Madison! If they win out and dont get in the cup… Read more »
You are correct-absolutely no surprise. I wish they’d have let Cutforth throw more earlier in the game (in between rains, of course). Anemic, uninspired, and vanilla.
I say 7-5 watching Utah State yesterday and they played good against Unlv but if we play like we have in past couple weeks we will lose
This game reminded me of how the Broncos handled C J Tiller against UCLA.
Not sure how anyone that watched the game would think that we could beat any team anywhere. Middling run game with the worlds most uninspiring offense.
Seriously. Football is supposed to be fun. I was going to suggest that Potter just open up the playbook and let the offense play football. But from what we have seen of his playbook, it’s basically half an index card.
I’ll bet Potter has a lower back tattoo that says “HB Dive or Die!” For those that know, this is worse than Prince and his bubble screen obsession.
Alright before I get to my comments, I’ll say I love talking about Boise football, but I mean I like talking about football, not long winded rants about why I’m angry. Was following a reddit thread and facebook page and commenting/posting there, but everyone there is acting like Danielson murdered their dogs. 99% of it the past week has either been complaints or justifying their complaints. Like I get criticism is part of the sport, but honestly I don’t see the thrill in reading complaint after complaint after complaint. Honestly it’s repetitive and boring. Maybe I’m just a weird fan.… Read more »
I agree, everybody should get participation trophies just for showing up.
When the game plan clearly isn’t working, it’s time to mix things up. I’m not saying go hog wild with the pass but, there has to be the ability for the QB to be able to see the box is packed with 7-9, so audible a pass. It wasn’t difficult to count the bodies in the box all night, and it was a consistent 7-9.
I’m of the school of thought that the best game plan you can run is the one you can execute well. When Boise last played San Diego, Dirk Koetter said they ran the same 4-5 plays the entire second half and got like 300 rushing yards after getting stuffed almost the whole first half. The only thing they changed was one minor blocking assignment; most of us probably wouldn’t have noticed had Koetter never brought it up. They could have tried passing more, but on the few passing plays there were still issues, and not enough to convince me it… Read more »
I don’t have a hard time believing it wouldn’t have been closer had the weather been good and the offense healthy. This was merely a repeat of what we’ve seen several times this year, most recently the loss to Fresno St.
Clearly, the game plan was not working, as evidenced by the anemic offensive output. Therefore, as I said, time to mix things up. That isn’t a new game plan, it’s an adjustment to what is.
That’s really cool and it almost stands up. Unless you watched all of the other games this year. Run, run, pass. On repeat. Run it up the gut. Every run play is up the gut. What you thought was off tackle was just the running back cutting it outside. I’m not a fan of coaches saving players from themselves. The team practices an offense. Regardless of who is hurt or who is available, they run the offense. Why would you run a modified, run only, lame duck offense? Do they practice that? Do they practice running the same damn play… Read more »
“I have absolute confidence in Nate Potter. Absolute confidence in him, absolute confidence in our offensive staff, but obviously it’s not good enough right now. I’m not running from that. Seven points in a game, it’s going to be really, really hard to win a game when scoring seven points. I’m not running from the facts, but I don’t lose the trust in our coaches. We have to look at it though, we have to see what are we missing, what are we teaching, why are we not able to create more explosive plays, and we weren’t, and I have… Read more »
