It’s a palindrome day! With the 90s over, now we get to start reviewing more offensive players. Cool. So, with 88 Days left until kickoff we have…
#88, Matt Wagner, RS Junior, TE

Stats
Height: 6′ 5″
Weight: 250 lbs
High school: Rock Hill HS, Prosper, TX
How’d he get to The Blue™?
By Boise State being way cooler than North Texas. Mr. Wagner was committed to the Mean Green but decided he wanted to upgrade and play on The Blue. So, he signed, and that was that. He also had offers from Tulane, Lamar, and Georgetown.
Nickname
“Vogner”
If he were a fighter, his walkout music would be Ride of the Valkyries
Look-alike

I might go to the penalty box for this, but if you’re familiar enough with former Boise State coach, Kent Riddle…Wagner looks like a leaner version of him, minus 30 years
Career Highlights
He played in 13 games in 2024 with nine starts. In them, he had 10 receptions for 108 yards.
In 2025, everyone expected Matt Lauter to build on one of the most impressive seasons for a tight end in BSU history. While he still did pretty well, it was impossible to ignore Wagner. He didn’t have as many stats as Lauter (251 yards vs 330 and 2 TDs to 1), but in the moments he shined, he shined BIG and he made it clear he was going to be destined for bigger things.
2026 Prospectus
TE1 and one of the more dependable targets on the roster for Maddux.
Is he on Twi/X?
Yep. But it’s mostly retweets.
Completely made up fact
Just because he has the same last name (albeit an Americanized pronunciation) as the composer of the song referenced in the nickname section…Matt has actually always been more of a Mozart guy.

You guys are getting good. I wake and boom! There’s Matt Wagner.
Anyway, without a Wagner, there would be no Wedding March or Ride of the Valkyries.
Wganer has stayed cool, bided his time, and honed his craft. Three ingredients to success. Now, just get him the ball.
Wellll…confession. Technically, it’s not early, it’s late. Day 88 was actually yesterday. I was working too much yesterday and couldn’t get to it until I typed this up on my phone while trying to get the baby to sleep at 2 am haha. And that’s happened a few times. But! On the bright side, that means you’ll get another one later today. Regardless, thank you for always being such a consistent supporter. We appreciate you!
[…] is a lot of quality talent at tight end on the Boise State roster. The group is led by Matt Wagner, but Carter definitely is talented enough to be considered in that group. However, there are a […]
