Halfway mark is in sight—stay strong, soldiers! Today we present Mr. 51:

#51, Roman Caywood, RS Sophomore, Edge

Stats

Height: 6’3

Weight: 240

High school: Corner Canyon HS (Draper, UT)

How’d he get to The Blue™?

Roman initially built his name over 3 seasons at Cottonwood High School before eventually making the switch to scholarship factory, Corner Canyon. There he picked up offers from Idaho, Nevada, and Washington State (apparently by Frank Maile, funnily enough).

Ultimately, the #4 ranked Edge in Utah sifted through the noise and eventually made the correct decision in choosing Boise to call home.

Nickname

“Empire”

When my kids ask about my Roman Empire here in the future, I hope it’s about Roman Caywood’s 2026 breakout season.

Look-alike

Maybe it’s the longish hair, but he reminds me of the quarterback of the Boise State Broncos, a guy named Maddux Madsen. Madsen also had a breakout redshirt sophomore year after showing flashes in his redshirt freshman year, could Roman follow suit??

Career Highlights

Caywood appeared in 13 of the Broncos’ 14 games a year ago, making his appearances felt more and more at the end of the season. He had 4 tackles (2 TFLs) and a 1/2 sack against Utah State, and followed that up with 2 tackles and a forced fumble against UW in the LA Bowl.

2026 Prospectus

Expectations are rising for him in 2026. He started getting more and more snaps near the end of the season, and is certainly a breakout candidate. An excellent pass rush would help a secondary that’s lost some experience. The need and opportunity is there, would not be a shock to see him meet the moment.

Is he on Twitter?

You can find him at the aptly named @CaywoodRoman, however no tweets (xeets?) in the last couple calendar years.

NIL Exchange:

Do you think you could beat Roman in ping pong? Hire him and find out!

Completely made up fact

Roman is actually short for Romulus (saving exactly two letters and one syllable), a name which left a great impression on Spencer Danielson in recruitment. This is because Danielson actually had a pet goldfish named Romulus growing up, so named because the fish veterinarian misheard the young Spencer’s given name for the fish, Rhombus, his favorite shape at the time.
