In the fall of 2017, I was somewhat optimistic about my chances with the outside WR spot on my high school football team. It was my senior year and we had some key departures from the year prior, so I just wanted to get my name in the hat, ya know?

It turns out we had this scrawny 6-3 sophomore show up that summer. He was extremely fast and could seemingly catch over anyone, anytime. One of us started writing for a sports blog, and the other got the starting job and a D1 scholarship.

That kid? Austin Bolt.

Borah Boooooooooooooooooom.

#81, Austin Bolt, RS Junior, WR

Stats

Height: 6-3

How’d he get to The Blue™

How did the Blue get to him? Austin’s room was painted Blue and Orange as a young lad, what more can I say? The 3 star recruit dominated Idaho high school sports for a spell (especially after I relinquished the #11 jersey upon my graduation) and BSU came a callin’

Nickname

“Bounce-Back Bolt”

Broken leg, blue grass, Battlestar Galactica, it don’t matter. Austin Bolt is on the way back up. It was heartbreaking to see his injury last year, but I don’t see us running out of need for tall, fast wide receivers. Bounce-Back Bolt 2023.

Look-alike

Austin Bolt will give Owen Wilson yet another reason to say “Wow” this year. Two stars with long blond locks and beards, now we just need to get Austin a leading role in an animated movie about cars. (He’s already got the fast part down)

Career Highlights

A season-ending injury cut his season short right as it began last year. He’s consistently shown his speed as a special teams gunner, gathering quite a few tackles in 2021. Assuming he can return back to from his injury I think we’ll be able to talk about a lot more than tackles real soon.

2023 Prospectus

There’s a lot of buzz around the WR core this year. Eric McAllister had a bit of a breakout and Latrell Caples + Stef Cobbs + Billy Bowens remain as mainstays of the group. Who’s to say Austin can’t break through? I don’t think we’ll ever run out of a need for big plays and Austin can be the guy to do it. Expect to hear his name called plenty this year.

Is he on Twitter?

He is, @austin_bolt32, although no tweets since last season.

Completely made up fact

Some know of the true fact that Leon Rice offered Austin a spot to play on the basketball team at Boise State, but few know about the less true fact that Austin was also offered a spot on the fencing team. “His technique is impeccable”, says Geraldinho Pique, a fencing source I made up. In the unlikely event that our world shifts back to the medieval age, Austin would be a welcome ally.
