Broncos 17, Cowboys 13
In front of a hyped-up crowd in Laramie, the Broncos went on the road and took a W from a highly motivated _yoming team.
First Half
Let’s be honest: Outside of a 61 yard TD by the best football player in America, it was a forgettable first half. Dalmas uncharacteristically missed a kick, the Broncos fell prey to the Cowboys’ ultra-aggravating ball-control strategy, and the offense struggled. They went into the half, tied up at 10.
Boise State 10, _yoming 10
Second Half
When it was all over, the Boise State defense actually had acquitted themselves well. Although, at times, it reeeelly didn’t feel that way. Sometimes the “bend” in a “bend-but-don’t-break” feels like a right angle. But, hey…only 13 points allowed is still only 13 points allowed! The offense did just enough in the second half. Cam Camper had some big catches to move the chains, but the offense really clicked again after Jeanty went back in the game after leaving the field, grimacing in pain, for about a quarter. He, Camper, and Madsen worked their way down the field for the go-ahead TD, but it was actually Breezy Dubar that scored from two yards out.
FInal Score: Broncos 17, Cowboys 13
Observations
- Jeanty is so dang tough. He has CLEARLY been battered for over a month now. I’m not sure if it’s an ankle, that left elbow, or something else, but he has not looked as agile or fast and has been very slow to get up a lot. Not to mention leaving a few games, for several series, with a very pained look on his face. Despite that, he still had 169 rushing yards and a TD (on 19 carries) and is the first FBS player since 2019 to have over 2,000 rushing yards. And he still has one regular season game left!
- Maddux had another one of those nights where he wasn’t very efficient, but it wasn’t all on him. There were a few drops by wide receivers. That said, he still didn’t turn the ball over at all.
- Hassanein hadn’t shown up as much on the stat sheet the last few weeks, but today he got another sack. So, that competition between him and Jayden Virgin-Morgan is still alive. Don’t count the vet out yet! Max Stege bagged a sack as well.
- Boise State clinched a spot in the Mountain West conference championship with the win.
We’ll see you back on The Blue for the regular season finale, the day after Thanksgiving, at 10 am, as the Broncos take on the Oregon State Beavers. In the meantime, as always…

Glad the game is over, it was the sloppiest play by BSU that I can remember in a long time. Nevertheless, in the end they found a way to win.
They have to find a way to stop playing down to subpar teams. There is no good reason for it and if not fixed sooner than later it will lead to a loss somewhere down the road. COACHES NEED TO STEP UP.
That said, glad for the win. GO BRONCOS!
I could be wrong (and usually I am) but this looks like a team running low on gas.
Jeanty came to life when it was needed.
Dubar is looking better.
Mad Dog–good game, not so good, good game not so good. good game, not so good…
Dubar giving Jeanty just a little breather worked wonders.
It seems like when they throw fifty/fifty balls, they’re more like 90/10 in their favor (Okay, I exaggerate)
It was sloppy but I bet Colorado, Alabama, BYU, Ole Miss, or Texas A&M would take a sloppy win.
This team baffles me.
Yes, baffling is the right word!
All season long, I stressed how Malachi should be our guy. Wed probably be 8-3 or 9-2 with him QBing, but he’d be learning, growing & developing. Madsen (I refuse to call him Mad Dog) has hit his ceiling. He’s a terrific human being & a heck of a wonderful young man, but he’s not a Division 1 Quarterback. The problem is it makes no sense to change ABs this late in the season so we obviously stick with him, but man I hope the go with Malachi or we get a stud transfer in the Winter/Spring because we certainly… Read more »
I have to agree on Maddux. Good kid, tough kid … but an average to below-average FBS quarterback. He has hit his ceiling. Really, though, I’m also tired of Koetter’s play calling and overall strategy. We almost never throw basic slants or work the middle. It is 70% runs up the gut, 20% bootlegs where we pass to our TE or an out route to a WR, 10% broken plays or scrambles. Koetter is a legendary coach, but we HAVE to get a new OC with some fresh ideas for next year. Sadly, I don’t see us beating UNLV again… Read more »
I agree with the quarterback situation. However, we have to trust the coaches. (some of the time) None of us has seen Malichi but for a few snaps. I don’t think we’ve hit a bomb all year.
If you prepare for Jeanty and everything in front of you, your defense’s ability to operate is in a smaller space. Taylen could throw the long ball, He couldn’t hit the slants with consistency.
Yep, those close games build on a team’s character. As a fan, I want blowouts every game. I don’t want nail biting.
I think it’s clear that teams have figured out a formula how to play against Boise from scouting. However, we keep winning.
Is it just me seeing things that aren’t there or, have we been regressing since about week 3? Our DB’s continue to get torched on the long runs and, our vanilla offense is so predictable, even I can call the plays before they happen, just be seeing the offense line up. I’m pretty sure opposing defenses can as well. It’s like watching a tire with a slow leak. I’m quite sure there are a lot of sore and injured players (Jeanty, for one) out there but, the other team has them as well. One big difference is we are very… Read more »
10 and 1, and that 1 came with a new C and could easily have been a w
man I’ll take it
as teams refine their “beat bsu” equation, would love to see more reliance on the counters to that equation, but the record speaks on it’s own
NIU beating ND, etc; if the record says who we are, it seems to say some nice things
Technically, if UNLV loses to Nevada (upsets happen) & Colorado State beats Utah State then we play CSU in the title game.
True. However, as you can tell by my leaving that out, I’m not holding my breath.
Well, our secondary is consistently bad. Every team we play now knows the formula: slow Jeanty down by stacking the box, knowing Madsen’s receivers rarely get open and his passing is inconsistent; and pass the ball.
IF JEANTY DOES NOT WIN THE HEISMAN, THE VOTERS HAVE NO INTEGRITY.
THEY WILL BE SOULESS PIGS AND DOGS (I couldn’t decide which sounded worse or better described. I should have tossed in SPINLESS.)
it’s not the voters its the system
it begins with “trust me I’m not biased yet retain all the power”
maybe the answer is to quit stalin and change it
It’ll almost certainly be Travis Hunter for Colorado.
Big 12, Deion, plays both ways . The writing is on the wall
got the w, good enough for me
offense looks it’s playing to avoid turnovers and being behind the chains
that’s normal outcomes with a new C, and guessing this gets better as we move along
sounds like a few impact guys are getting well enough to come back and play
Man, this game was nerve wracking. However, I have watched BSU football for almost 20 years, and I think this is a game 95% of BSU teams lose. It was the perfect storm: at Wyoming, best player hurt, we just weren’t at our best. But we won. That will speak volumes when we play UNLV or Ohio State later. It seems like Boise often shows up for the big games but can often seem very sub-par against inferior teams. With Mad Dog, he may not be the best QB, but I would argue he is the best team leader. He… Read more »
I honestly can’t believe the degree of naysaying on this board given the level at which our Bronco’s are outperforming expectations. They BARELY dropped that game to Oregon and ya’ll are calling for Koetter to step down and complaining about the QB pick, gimme a break. This team is a great spot to make history this year, just enjoy it.
Thanks. You are absolutely right.
If not for one of two special team miscues against Oregon, where would the Broncos be ranked?
Logic would suggest #1.
