Apologies for the the long weekend, but now we’re back! One 2010 Fiesta Bowl final score away from football season now.
#17, Clay Martineau, Sophomore, LB

Stats
Height: 6–3
Weight: 227
High school: Oregon City HS (Oregon City, OR)
How’d he get to The Blue™?
247’s #2 player in the state of Oregon came to Boise with 4 stars by his name. I’m probably a broken record on this, but it feels like the coaching staff has made it a point to recruit closer to home, and Clay is yet another example. Among his offers were Washington, Washington State, and BYU, but those offers came after the Bronco staff had months to work their magic. Martineau made Boise home, and I for one am happy about it.
Nickname
“Claymore”
Expect to get blown up if you come his way.
Look-alike

The lookalike machine has proposed the late great Heath Ledger. Gotta say it was very confusing to see him first in the Dark Knight before his other movies.
Career Highlights
Clay found himself getting action in all 14 games during his freshman campaign. Most of that came on special teams, but he logged a sack against Portland State and a TFL against SDSU.
2025 Prospectus
The departure of of Andrew Simpson likely opens some doors for Clay this season. That said, the greater threat to Martineau minutes is probably the usage of dime defense, which means having 6 DBs on the field and only 1 LB (who would be Notarainni). So for that reason, Clay doesn’t simply have to win the off-ball LB spot, but also has to be good enough to discourage Dime usage. SD often talks about getting the “best 11” on the field, which is the group Mr. Martineau hopes to find himself in. It could go a lot of ways this season, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the field.
Is he on Twi/X?
@MartineauClay. Some retweets.
Completely made up fact
The Martineau family has a running bit where they like to change the spelling of their last name every so often. Clay Martinaeu has happily carried that tradition, despite the trouble it has caused me in google searches about Matinaeu’s career. Clay’s father, Brick, is quoted as saying, “a Matrinaeu man should be recognized by his actions, not his name”.

Great nickname, because I thought of it, also, before I got that far.
He’s going to be a big contributor. All-conference before he graduates.
Bad injury to Bronco great, Alexander Mattison.
