Stats

Height: 6’2″

Weight: 204

High school: Crean Lutheran HS, Irvine, CA

How’d he get to The Blue™?

Ty made it to the azul promised land by racking up 91 tackles, 7 pass breakups, and 4 interceptions as a senior at Crean Lutheran. This was in addition to 1,404 yards and 20 TDs compiled on the offensive side of the ball. He was a three star recruit and had offers from Colorado State, Washington, WSU, Oregon State, and…BYU. Bullet dodged on that last one!

Anyway, his high school highlights can be viewed here

Yet another one where there’s no chance to inflict my bad imagination on some poor young buck…because it’s literally on his Twitter

Career Highlights

Played in 13 games as a true freshman, starting five. In those games, he racked up 46 tackles, three sacks, and an INT. He flashed a natural talent in coverage and splash plays. He had a field day against Utah State, in particular, with 2 of his sacks, 2.5 TFLs, and a PBU coming against the Aggies.

2024 Prospectus

Benefield has already been named one of the starting safeties for 2024 and should be a force on the back end of the defense this season. If his play last year was any indication, we could be in for a special sophomore season from him.

Is he on Twitter?

Yes, and here’s how he announced his number change on Twitter 😂

Completely made up fact

Ty initially wanted to really eschew convention and wear #98, as a DB. The problem is, that jersey is currently worn by nose tackle, Herbert Gums. But Gums gave him a sporting chance. He said he’d let him have the jersey if he could out-eat him at endless shrimp at Red Lobster. Not only did Benefield not come close (a safety vs a nose tackle, sir…get real!), but between the two of them, the Red Lobster empire has been pushed into a tailspin
