Number 38 on the countdown is a player that Mountain West teams are very familiar with. Demitri Washington has been an issue for opposing offensive lines his whole career, and there is not a single reason to believe this year will be any different. He also is literally Mr. Washington, so that bodes well. All I’m saying is if I’m Michael Penix Jr., I’m not exactly looking forward to Washington coming to say hello in the backfield in just five and a half weeks time.

Stats

Height: 6’3

Weight: 271

High school: Santa Fe Christian High School, Solana Beach, CA

How’d he get to The Blue™?

Washington had a handful of Pac 12 offers out of high school, including Arizona, Washington State and Cal. Other Mountain West schools also showed a lot of interest, but Washington came to Boise in the end to join a defense that, at the time, was led by now head coach Andy Avalos. Injuries and COVID have allowed Washington to stick around for the Broncos, and a big year could lead to hearing his name called at the NFL Draft next April.

Nickname

Mr. Washington

I’ll be honest, I’m just manifesting here. I want 38 to have a huge game in Seattle, it would just be too perfect. he would then be considered “Mr. Washington” ,and I think its almost poetic.

To be honest, I’m pretty sure Demitri Washington plays football better than Drake makes music, and that’s saying something because I think Drake is one of the best rappers we have ever seen. It just so happens that they look a like as well.

Career Highlights

Washington has contributed quite a bit in the last two years. Last season, he was tied for the most sacks on the team with 4.5, two of those coming against Air Force. Overall, the past two seasons have seen Demitri rack up 76 total tackles, including 35 solo tackles. Before that, his sophomore year was cut short because of COVID, but before that, as a redshirt freshman, he had 4.5 sacks and 34 tackles. He is a 4x academic All-Mountain West Player, and was picked on the Athlon Preseason All-Mountain West Second Team coming into this season.

2023 Prospectus

This is Washington’s last year on the Blue, and he has a chance to make an impact and get to the NFL. It’s reasonable to assume he will be the leader of the D Line this year, and should have a successful year. I’m projecting an improved sack total this year, pushing towards double digits. A good year with 50+ tackles and a forced fumble, and Washington should see himself playing on Sundays next season.

Is he on Twitter?

@dwash_9 is where you can find Demitri, and he is well worth the follow. He’s very active and involved in the Boise Community, where he recently helped put together the very popular Del Taco Bronco Block Party in Kuna!

Completely made up fact

Washington actually holds the key to the state of Washington. He will use it in an opening ceremony to the Washington game this year, forcing the Huskies to surrender due to Demitiri owning the state.
